Fellow Adventurers Wanted

Image
PakPak,  the kobold jar seller,   wants YOU to join him hunting Oloth El'gg  Ssusson You all know that charming adventurer. Well, we will say that his curiosity is piqued by this quest request by the elfin power in the area. PakPak claims to have seen this creature his very self. To have felt its chilling effect. He needs a crew of four to five more adventurers willing to stick their necks out searching Sourwood Marsh for this creature of terror. The question isn't does this treasure seeking kobold have a lead on where to stalk this monstrosity? He decidedly does. The question is are you brave enough to ride around in a boat across swampland as you methodically search for the prize while fending off the marsh's denizens. Have you talked to Kiddo? That newly-minted magic-user has a story or two to tell about those boggins at dwell in those waters. Journeyman Crannoc, a Beholder in the Transcendental Congress of the Aureate Precepts, has been

Burning Witch Adventurers Session #27- Against the Sorcerer King

All week, the adventurers known as the librarians of the Athenaeum of the Dying Sun plotted to execute one of a trio of plots they were "bound to complete". Or, so other regulars of the Burning Witch summarized from their overheard conversations. While they attempted recruit other adventurers to join them, only three of the librarians along with some hirelings form the 111th Company made up the composition of their party. Journeyman Crannoc could be overheard saying to the following fellow party members, "That sorcerer-king is a dick," as they left the tavern: Journeyman Crannoc (Level 3 Magic-user) Sonja Strong (Level 1 Fighter hireling) Tome Berry (Level 1 'Magic-User' hireling) Scamandros (Level 3 Magic-User) Kiddo (Level 0 Scrappy Youth hireling) Sergio Cankersore (Level 3 Half-Elf) Calendonensis (Level 1 Magic-User hireling), deceased The party returned much worse for wear, covered in mosquito bites and smelling of fire, and minus Cal

Adventurers of the Drinking Crow Session #11

The planning of the adventurers that congregate at the Drinking Crow had return to the subject of the Pit. A landmark that dominates the layout of Level 1 of "The Complex", the Drinking Crow's own Malagath Finbaros was the first adventurer to delve into its depths. The group, hesitant to return to Level 2 and face the tolls of the Red Hive, thought revisiting the bigger mystery of the Pit would yield more favorable results. The following group were seen purchasing rope and a dozen pastries before heading off to the dungeon along the Cerulean Sea: Bors Redbeard (Level 2 Dwarf) Fredrick Featherstone (Level 1 Vesigater) Mad Harriet (Level 0 Tuff hireling), deceased Malagath Finbaros (Level 1 Elf) Ornie Coldcut (Level 0 Man-at-Arms hireling), deceased V'Naïss Two-Face (Level 1 Vatspawn) Willow the Wisp (Level 1 Illusionist) Mister Fantastic (faithful dungeon terrier) The group returned barely alive, scorched and with much of their gear damaged. Neither h

Burning Witch Session #26- A Prickly Situation

Image
When the adventurers who patronize the Burning Witch aren't plotting insect extermination and doors made of fantastic metal, the tables are filled with discussions of how extract more wealth from "The Complex". Fueled by tales of the library find or the gnomish treasure scooped up by the Midnight Marauders or of the recent raid of the Zombie King treasury by those adventurers out of the Drinking Crow ; these treasure hunters and thrill seekers that congregate around the tavern's community tables plot to see who could make the next big find. And that is what the latest party consisting of the following set out to do: Fancy Jean-Yves Beauvillers (Level 1 Bard) Turq and Turwin (Level 0 hireling Men-at-Arms) Glys (Level 0 hirleing Crossbow Woman) Hate Pit (Level 2 Vatspawn) Banx (Level 1 Illusionist retainer) PakPak (Level 3 Kobold) Thea Noir (Level 3 Assassin)  Wolfgang (Level 1 Duelist) The party returned from that cliff-side dungeon dragging a stone con

Twilight Age Campaign Update

Image
This post is a little unusual. Given some changes I have going on and delays in developing certain things, I thought it best to write a post covering the state of things at the moment. Currently, things have been changing for me. I am back to work some. I have a new project or two of import that I am trying to tackle. Ben L.'s campaign that I have been playing in for years is restarting. As a result, I am going to move to one session a week. Well, at least for a few weeks to see how it all goes. Secondly, this upcoming week should be both the meeting of the Transcendental Congress of the Aureate Precepts and a martial tournament organized by the Order of the Dragon. This upcoming week's session will decided not be either. I had a recent breakthrough on an approach to long term hirelings (like Hate Pit's associate Banx) and what game development time I have had has been pointed towards that. My vision seemed kind of clear so it felt like I should pursue it. Be

Burning Witch Session #25- Beyond the Admantine Doors **Updated with Scamandros' Recounting**

Image
Once again, talk of mysterious adamantine doors on Level 2 and that level's insect problem dominated the conversation of the common tables at the Burning Witch. And, like discussions of these topics always seem to, the librarians of the Athenaeum of the Dying Sun were involved in them. The smell of Bartamus Fludge's insect repellent followed out the tavern as the librarians and their fellows left to tackle these vexing issues once again. Their number included: Avreml Oofnik (Level 2 Beet Thief) Frim Frimerson (Level 1 Fighter) Journeyman Crannoc (Level 3 Magic-User) Phasmo (Level 2 Magic-User) Scamandros (Level 2 Magic-User) Kiddo (Level 0 hireling Scrappy Youth) Sergio Cankersore (Level 3 Half-Elf) The party returned with no noticeable gains in wealth. Sergio, in fact, seemed worse off. His leather armor ruined and his chest bore acid burns. All of the party members seemed to now possess the same lion headed brand on their flesh. Above is a sketch by Scamandros

Burning Witch Adventurers Session #24-

At the common tables of the Burning Witch, there has been much talk of the mosquito problem on Level 2 of "The Complex". Journeyman Crannoc appeals to try to resolve the issue swayed some to his cause. A week of planning followed, including several adventurers commissioning 'mosquito suits' similar to the ones Crannoc designed. The following team of adventurers and hirelings set out from the tavern to tackle the insect infestation: Betina (Level 2 Fighter) The Sargent (Level 0 hireling Woman-at-Arms) Crambo (Level 1 Magic-User) Tome Berry (Level 1 hireling "magic-user") GaWoosh (Level 1 Gnome) Journeyman Crannoc (Level 3 Magic-User) Kestrel Mask (Level 1 hireling masked thief) The party returned bearing strange, crystalline pear-like fruit and unused mosquito suits. Crambo's chest and Betina's left hand bore terrible acid burns that left permanent scars. Crambo by his player Rob B. The Loot Three crystal pears (each heals

Adventurers of the Drinking Crow Session #10- The Death of Stench Firebeard

A new month as arrived and most of the adventurers based out of the Drinking Crow are broke. After offering up value gear as collateral to the local loan bank, the group was determined to retrieve a treasure haul from somewhere in Level 2 of "The Complex". The party's first expedition was without retainers. The returned carrying a wooden chest, a coffer, and a box packed with treasure. After paying off their debts and a night's rest, the party returned to the dungeon with hirelings in tow. This delve did not fair as well as their last and not all members returned. Neither Stench Firebeard nor hireling Sir Basilieus had a body to bring back. Bors Redbeard paid out the weregilt to the 111th Company for Sir Basilieus. Afterwards, Bors was glimpsed joining some games of chance in the cellar of the Drinking Crow . The party adventuring was: Bors Redbeard (Level 1 Dwarf) Sir Basilieus (Level 1 hireling Knight of the Morningstar), deceased Fredrick Featherstone (Lev

The knight captured the Sea King Rold the Steel Griffin at Carse Along the Sea. Bonds issued to pay for Sharp's campaign can be deemed now for 1 gold piece and 2 silver pieces per each gold piece spent on bonds. The Midnight Marauders returned to "The Complex" with new recruits Raeth and Carabas along with hireling Lirazel. The returned bearing the body of Raeth, badly burned by acid and little in the way of cash treasure. The Marauders have a map of Level 2, entering Red Hive territory covering 10 rooms that they will sell for 100gp. They also possess a decanter of endless water that they will sell to inter

Lady Blackmarsh and the Oloth El'gg Ssusson

Image
Tales of Oloth El'gg Sssusson (or the Darkness That Slays the Light ) stretch back at least four aeons to when Overlord Zotul entered into treaties with the elfin folk that still definite relationships between the fey realm and Ur-Dan. The elves of the Twilight Shores say that one elfin king, the starchild known as Elexus, plucked from the heavens a dying constellation. Jealous of the domains of his fellow kings as laid out by the sacred treaties, Elexus promised the starving constellation new life through the hunting of his fellow elfin kind. Oloth El'gg Ssusson terrorized the elves until the half-elf hero Yodar defeated it. Now the monster seems to have returned. The word among cautious elfin beings is that the ringing of a bell can keep the creature at momentarily at bay but that an elf can never hide from it. It brings the chill of death with it and fear so strong that it steals all breath. If Lady Blackmarsh is pressed as to how she is so certain that it is the

Burning Witch Adventurers Session #23- Canoeing in the Complex

Scamandros once again presented his plans of visiting the yeast fields in the northern caverns of "The Complex". This time, he presented it to a lot fellow adventurers as the kicking off point for a trip on the waters Scamandros saw on his last delve into the dungeon. The group seemed won over by the idea of a dungeon canoe trip. Soon, the following group was seen traveling down to the harbor to get their unseaworthy vessels: Betina (Level 1 Fighter) Fancy Jean-Yves Beauvillers (Level 1 Bard) Turwin and Turq (Level 0 hireling men-at-arms) Glys (Level 0 hireling crossbow woman) Fergus (Level 1 Magic-User) Hate Pit (Level 2 Vat-spawn) Banx (Level 1 retainer Illusionist) PakPak (Level 3 Kobold) Scamandros (Level 2 Magic-User) The group returned in mostly good spirits (though they were debating with Fancy his controversial views on dwarves and gnomes). Hate Pit carried a strange, pale blue sword with a hilt in the shape of a serpent. Here is Scamandros' re
