Burning Witch Adventurers Session #27- Against the Sorcerer King
All week, the adventurers known as the librarians of the Athenaeum of the Dying Sun plotted to execute one of a trio of plots they were "bound to complete". Or, so other regulars of the Burning Witch summarized from their overheard conversations. While they attempted recruit other adventurers to join them, only three of the librarians along with some hirelings form the 111th Company made up the composition of their party. Journeyman Crannoc could be overheard saying to the following fellow party members, "That sorcerer-king is a dick," as they left the tavern:
Kiddo has finally taken to her steadfast employer Scamandros' tutelage and is now a magic-user. To celebrate, the young retainer hit the town. She spread tales as she toured Orm's drinking holes of grizzly fights with fierce vat-grown warriors and how, with the use of her employer's ESP spell, the group outwitted the sorcerer-king known as Valtropis! The young novice's path was lost when yet another riot broke out in the streets of Orm. Kiddo was next seem, sleeping off her adventures in the front doorway to the Athenaeum of the Dying Sun.

Two item sit in front of the party before they can dig into downtime activities.
- What is the party going to do with the now one-legged vat-spawn and that soldier's compatriot that the group had temporarily blinded. Are they prisoners? Where they released into the dungeon? Brought to Orm? Something else?
- Which spell is Scamandros going to tutor Kiddo in for their downtime activities?
Scamandros' vote for the vatspawn is to have returned to Orm with both of them (the one-legged fellow carried on my floating disc with our negligible loot). The one-legged fellow put it to me that he would like to find a new life, maybe we can find something for him in the city? And the other one was charmed by Sergio; I imagine he'll pal around with the half-Elf and get a new saving throw once a week to see if he "throws off" the charm, so he should be useful until then.
ReplyDeleteAs to Kiddo's tutelage ... "Egads! It must have been that terrible blow that you took from the vatspawn that finally brought forth your potential in the arcane arts. Perhaps the nearness of Death did somewhat to open your third eye. Well, as to the mastery of your first spell ... allow me to show you the basic forms of my Floating Disc. Perhaps it is not so martial or flashy as the golden plumbata of my Magic Missile, but I find it well that practitioners remember that there are deeper truths to magic than merely the ability to injure our foes.
"And as to your future growth, I offer the same advice as given me: do not feel the necessity slavishly to return to me for magical formulae (though I will gladly share what I know)--but it is good to cast the net of knowledge broadly, rather than become an extension of a single master. For instance, I imagine that Crannoc, Phasmo, or even Sergio may all gladly share some knowledge with you, and there are others too, outside our little orbit."
Yes, let's question our charmed fellow and get him to draw us a map of Valtropis' territory. My downtime for this session, continued from our talk Nick, is to try to extrapolate from the metal sheets on how to work the Pool of Life and the Essence Machine, try to figure out how to turn the dials of the vats to create new life for my...I mean our...ends.
ReplyDelete"Ah, good to be reminded that one of our number was doing the work necessary to parse these strange artefacts. I was too distracted by my tutelage of Kiddo, and subsequent excursions to the Marsh, and seeking the Rootless below, to follow up on these sheets of metal.
