Dungeon23 Week 3 + 1

Image
So, I already have not stuck to my Sunday update schedule. While I found it hard to keep up with the week due to my continuing sleep troubles and starting odd hours at work as we start inventory, none of that is why this is a day late. One of the reasons for the delay is I decided to include Sunday's room(s) with the week because it completed the idea I was working through with this set of rooms. Another reason is that the weekly schedule started to make less sense as the end of the month approaches and it is going to fall on a Tuesday, It could be very likely that I post Week Four along with those rooms from the last three days of the month and a complete map of Level 1A. We shall see. This week's set of rooms focus on living areas and introduce a new faction to the dungeon: the visiting circle of magic-users known as the Sempiternal Utterance of the Crimson Bond. Some Notes on Process This week see me revisiting several concepts from the tent-pole dungeon of my What Fools T

Dungeon23 Week Two

Here are results from my second week of #dungoen23. I am thinking at the end of the month I will post the full map. As I work, though, I have been making smaller segmented ones that just focus on what I am creating for the week (though this map does have some placement of elements of the tunnel from last week's 1A-1 ). I hope my writing and under drawing in red lead doesn't make things too hard to read. It comes out much darker in the scan than in my journal. It is a hold over from my process from my comics. This week's map has hints of Twilight Age lore starting with the first room covering the session of Archwizards of the Transcendental Congress of the Aureate Precepts . Anyways, here are rooms 1A-8 to 1A-14: Some Notes on Process Room 1A-8 might be my favorite of #dungeon23 so far. It took a lot of a Sunday to complete but I had a fun time sketching up the assorted Archwizards. I have a feeling they will show up in other ways as I expand the dungeon. It feels like the

The map so far The first week of #dungeon23 has passed. Those looking to see what folks have been getting up to should check out this round up at Mazirian's Garden by Ben. Fittingly, the blog's name shake has been on of the things on my mind I have been plotting out my own entry: the grounds of a wizard's manse. I have a strong suspicion that it is the home of the Archwizard of the Transcendental Congress of Aureate Precepts , Merzhin. This head of this wizardly institution is more than likely currently absentee from the grounds (and also more than likely deceased having accidently eaten a poison mushroom or berry in a simply foraging misstep). This seclusion has a connection to the realm of elves and probably is built on top of some stronghold of a defeated Wizard King. That is what I have as a premise for now. Those that want more insight can chekc out the back half of the post. Here is the work I did this week: Some Notes on Process As I was working on my map this wee

Dungeon23 Begins

2023 is here and with it comes the start of #dungoen23. I plan to update my progress here every Sunday with regular posts over on my Instagram following the development of my megadungeon on a more micro level. My first keyed room is for an entrance into the dungeon: A Bit of My Process for Those That are Interested For the start of this endeavor, I am pulling from a few of my favorite previous designs. When my regular Monday night crew (known around these parts at the adventurers based out of the Drinking Crow ) first started, we were playing Dungeon Crawl Classics. After running several published 0-Level funnels, the first dungeon I designed were known as The Goblin Caves and featured a notoriously deadly entrance through a cave opening with a carved entry inspired by this: Orcus in the Gardens of Bomarzo This started a long-running interest in dungeon entrances themed around sculpted faces and heads that even pops up in my comics. I decided to play off this entrance with that of th
