Burning Witch Adventurers Session #22- The Private Chambers of Zaza Zafor

Several of the adventurers that frequent the Burning Witch got caught up in by Journeyman Crannoc and Phasmo' discussions of dealing with the mosquitoes unleashed on Level 2 of "The Complex". There was a fascination with Crannoc's unwieldy mosquito suits and Phasmo's dreams of what may lie behind some admantine doors. As a plan began to congeal, none objected to Crannoc's desire for a quick aside to visit a magically sealed door on Level 1. The following adventurers were seen taking stock of their insect repellent as the left the tavern: Abraxis (Level 1 Fighting-Mutant) GaWoosh (Level 1 Gnome) Journeyman Crannoc (Level 3 Magic-User) Lizarel (Level 1 hireling Elf) Phasmo (Level 2 Magic-User) Thea Noir (Level 3 Assassin)  Wolfgang (Level 1 Duelist) The party returned from the dungeon very ragged. Wolfgang badly hurt and Thea with a wound in her torso that ran all the way through. Both of their mouths stained black. They also were carrying a large

Another fortnight has passed in Orm and it cannot be said that it has been a quite one. Below are the topic most on folks lips in Orm... \ Riverborn Scamandros lead a wake at the Burning Witch  for fallen fellow adventurers Castora and Feeble Finn. The magic-user threw down 20 gold pieces for the event inviting all interest to contribute their own coin to the remembrance of their fellows.* The Midnight Marauders return from another delve with the body of a 5' long giant lizard in tow. The adventurers plan to have the orange spotted beast turned into a trophy for the their company headquarters. They are rumored to have sold a golden circlet after their expedition. All was not cheer when the group returned, as charter member Jacq Twigg (sometimes called Ghoul Slayer) and company man-at-arms Sammo both returned deceased . The group caroused in memory of their brethren. During the drinking, the group shared tales of staying at the inn run by the Brothers and Sooz'awn ram

Retainers and Hireling of the Twilight Age- Orm's 111th Company

First, before we delve further, note that this post will be a living one. It has taken me a long time to pull together. Much longer than I would have liked. So, expect elements to be filled in, illustrations to become more developed or refined, and mechanical elements to be tweaked or smoothed out. Information will switch from being lines of text to illustrated pages. This, of course, is not even counting characters that get removed as they parish or become maimed or suffer other fates. All that said, here is... The Exalted 111th Company of Hirelings & Retainers The need for an organized body of mercenaries, lackeys, and roustabouts in the services of adventurers in Orm had been nonexistent. Sure, there were rumors in past epochs of such ventures but only Merdinus would know (if anyone does). Adventure, though, had come to Orm. A strange underworld with grand treasures and even greater untold dangers saw expeditions hiring locals to accompany them into the unknown. So far, 25 s

Burning Witch Adventurers Session #22- Feeble Finn and Castora Return!!!

Another party of adventurers from the Burning Witch decided to try their fate a mere day after the tragic delve of Castora, Dogmouth, Feeble Finn, and Thea Noir. Unlike their compatriots, the plans of this group of adventurers were discussed in hushed tones. Their maps covered when others passed. They seemed to agree upon a course of action only to reenter debt but no one noticed. Everyone else was raising glasses to Finn Fleetfoot and Castora of the Order of the Dragon. At some point a plan must of been agreed upon for all of them, to their last member, got up and finally took the path to "The Complex". They were: Betina (Level 1 Fighter) Ornie Coldcut (Level 0 hireling Man-at-Arms) Frim Frimmerson (Level 1 Fighter) Journeyman Crannoc (Level 2 Magic-User) Phasmo (Level 2 Magic-User) Scamandros (Level 2 Magic-User) Kiddo (Level 0 retainer Scrappy Kid) Wolfgang (Level 1 Duelist) The party returned with a golden bowl filled with coins along with the body of Feeb

The weather in Orm is turning. The damp sea air is growing heavy. At the Burning Witch , Dogmouth direct several of his fellow adventurers to a neglected part of the Level 2 communal map. He had visited it on his first time into "The Complex" and wanted to return in hope of treasure hiding somewhere in those neglected caverns. The following group agreed and launched an expedition: Castora (Level 1 Knight), deceased Ur-Kel (Level 1 hireling Vatspawn Fighter) Dogmouth (Level 1 Thief) Feeble Finn (Level 1 Dwarf), deceased Thea Noir (Level 2 Assassin) The party returned treasureless. Two of their number, Castora and Feeble Finn: dead. The hireling Ur-Kel's achilles tendon cut. It would be a month before he could adventure again. An illustration by Castora's player Curtis of the session's carnage as the spirits of Castora and Feeble Finn look on before moving on to "the next plane". Burning Witch Adventurers Session #20- Attack of the "Suck Clouds"! **Updated w/ Scamandros' Recounting**

Image
The seer known as Riverborn Scamandros had spent the post-Festivial of Flowers days expounding upon designs decidedly different than his fellow librarians at the Atheanean of the Dying Sun's were hatching a few tables away. No Level 3 dangers in this magic-user's plotting. Instead, he shared schemes of making collections in the yeast fields on Level 1 of "The Complex" or of picking the strange black fruits that grow on unnatural vines in Level 2. Both of these were so the magic-user could use the fruits of the expedition to make new, possibly magical, inebriants. Such plans seemed to capture interest among a handful of the adventurers that gather at the Burning Witch . As a party composed of said adventurers left the tavern to start their march towards that now infamous cliff side opening, some of in their number could be heard grumbling about possibly redirecting the expedition towards the acquisition of treasure. Who among the following it was, fellow patrons of th

Burning Witch Adventurers Session #19- A Platinum and Sapphire Chalice **Updated**

Hate Pit's player Marie drew the vatspawn ex-gladiator showing off the flower that blessed them during the Festival of Flowers. As the Festival of Flowers comes to an end, the conversations at the common tables of the Burning Witch return to their usual topic of late: delves into the underworld known as "The Complex". There was much excitement around the prospect of investigating Level 3 (including some plans being hatched) as the group took in the community maps shared among the adventurers at the Witch . Protests to not overlook Level 2 easily prevailed and the group shifted their focus. Plans of visiting the black fruit vines or a room filled with wooden statues near the "Red Hive" could be heard still being hashed out as has the following party headed out of the Burning Witch on the latest delve: Abraxis (Level 1 Mutant Fighter) Castora (Level 1 Knight) Ur-Kel (hireling Level 1 Vatspawn Fighter) Hate Pit (Level 1 Vatspawn) Banx (hireling L

Bor's 5th Journal Entry

Recounting events from the recent 8th delve by adventures based out of the Drinking Crow, here is Bor's 5th journal entry as provided by his player, Shahnawaz: Bors’ Journal Entry five:          The Grim Reminder , I had hoped I wouldn’t need it, but that hope was dashed as little Relfus has perished.  We explored more around where Bjorn and Elvira had perished, hoping to find some treasure in that area.  However, V’naïss figured out the puzzle in the room just south of the entrance to the second level.  She wasn’t able to harness the power that was pushed into him, but I tried and was able to succeed! Although it isn’t much, I can make light out of nothing! This is what doing miracles must feel like. I’m amazed that clerics and magic users aren’t as awed by their power as they should be.  I wonder if there are ways I could get more powers like this, or to make my current ability more potent.  The Complex gets more and more interesting as we progress.  There are so many questions

Downtime Interlude- Identifying Magic Items at the Athenaeum of the Dying Sun

Image
GaWoosh, PakPak, Thea Noir, and Wolfgang set upon the old bathhouse currently housing the Athenaeum of the Dying Sun in order to discover more about items recently retrieved in delves into the cliff face. All told, 500 gp was spent over two weeks in order to discover the properties of the items they have uncovered. In this research, GaWoosh's background and native tongue were indispensable. In the research, it becomes very apparent that having someone versed in Gnomic, Old Imperialish,and/ or possessing experience in arcane arts and their symbols is essential to make any headway with the resources currently available to the burgeoning library. All told, the items examined include three unusual liquids, a metal beaker, and a dagger. Two of the strange drafts were the easiest to identify. One was a crystal bottle containing a liquid resembling dirty water while the other was other was a glass vial containing a thick orange-gold substance. Some sort of Old Imperialish alc

Adventurers of the Drinking Crow Session #8

The surviving members of the regular crew of adventurers that meet at the Drinking Crow  were joined by two new members: cleric Stench Firebeard (cousin to the deceased Bjorn) and former minion Fredrick Featherstone. Over drinks, it was decided that they would return to the area of Level 2 where their comrades perished a fortnight ago. The new party consisted of: Bors Redbeard (Level 1 Dwarf) Fredrick Featherstone (Level 1 Vestigater) Malagath Fenbaros (Level 1 Elf) Relfus (Level 0 Valet), deceased Stench Firebeard (Level 1 Cleric of the Golden Gnasher) V'Naïss Two-Face (Level 1 Vatspawn) The party returned from "The Complex" covered in painful blisters and bearing the body of Malagath's Personal Security hob, Relfus, on the Grim Reminder . The following note was found on the ground outside the Drinking Crow after the party's return. All but the last item was scratched off: V’naïss Two-Face’s to-do list: 1. Solve the puzzle of the pillars. 2. Perma

The Festival of Flowers Blooms and Other News Around Orm

Another fortnite has passed in Ur-Dan. Along the Cerulean Sea, where the Gloaming Hills meets Sourwood Marsh, here is what folks are talking about: The drunken brownies and sprites above the Drinking Crow have brought word has traveled all the way from the Twilight Shores: the Margrave Quinius (Guardian of the the Friscalating Fens) has vanished on a recent hunt. The head of the elfin court, Her Majesty Blackmarsh, fears it is the return of the Oloth El'gg Ssusson . Meanwhile, back in the Realm of Mortals, the tragedy that befell Eq'Thyll has the settlements along the Bay of Favul at unease. All the showmanship of Sir Yann Sharp's borderland skirmishes has led to little headway into dealing with the mystery of Eq'Thyll. On top of that, an increase of raiding activity which included a ship from the Holy Empire-That-Is with goods for the Festival of Flowers, along the Cerulean Sea has done little to improve the people's opinion of Sharp's current campaign

Burning Witch Adventurers Session #18 **Updated with Scamandros' Recounting**

Three of the partners in the Athenaeum of the Dying Sun were joined by recent adventuring companions Frim Frimmerson and Betina at a corner in the Burning Witch . The group discussed a recent trip some of them took on an elevator inside "The Complex" as the poured over the communal maps (along with Crannoc's personal notes) to plan their next expedition. The party could be heard agreeing upon trying to use the elevator to travel to Level 3 of the dungeon as they headed out. Betina (Level 1 Fighter) Ornie Coldcut (Level 0 Man-at-Arms hireling) Frim Frimmerson (Level 1 Fighter) Journeyman Crannoc (Level 2 Magic-User) Phasmo (Level 2 Magic-User) Scamandros (Level 2 Magic-User) Kiddo (Level 0 Scrappy Youth hireling) The party returned bearing a bound 4' long beetle. While all party members still lived, Betina and Frim suffered from deep bites of some kind. Here is a drunken recounting of the events of the delve by Scamandros to his newly a acquire goat.

Burning Witch Adventurers Session #17- Byndle R.I.P. **Updated**

Image
The Burning Witch  has been filled with a certain lightness as old comrades Hate Pit, PakPak, Thea Noir, and GaWoosh reunited to plan a new expedition with relative newcomers Wolfgang and Byndle (not the beheaded one but the other one, his fancily dressed brother). It had been a long time since the four had delved together. Especially long for GaWoosh, who has been in a sort of hiding ever since the Orrder of the Illuminated Eye killed all those gnomes inside "The Complex." After sorting through some maps, the party could be overheard settling on visiting the altar of some forgotten god known as "Math". The group was, in all: Byndle (Level 1 Thief), deceased GaWoosh (Level 1 Gnome) Ornie Coldcut (Level 0 Man-at-Arms) Hate Pit (Level 1 Vatspawn) Banx (Level 1 Illusionist) PakPak (Level 2 Kobold) Thea Noir (Level 2 Assassin) Wolfgang (Level 1 Duelist) PakPak explains to a pair of Vatspawn the facts of life by PakPak's player Rob. The party re
