Burning Witch Adventurers Session #22- Feeble Finn and Castora Return!!!

Another party of adventurers from the Burning Witch decided to try their fate a mere day after the tragic delve of Castora, Dogmouth, Feeble Finn, and Thea Noir. Unlike their compatriots, the plans of this group of adventurers were discussed in hushed tones. Their maps covered when others passed. They seemed to agree upon a course of action only to reenter debt but no one noticed. Everyone else was raising glasses to Finn Fleetfoot and Castora of the Order of the Dragon. At some point a plan must of been agreed upon for all of them, to their last member, got up and finally took the path to "The Complex". They were:

  • Betina (Level 1 Fighter)
    • Ornie Coldcut (Level 0 hireling Man-at-Arms)
  • Frim Frimmerson (Level 1 Fighter)
  • Journeyman Crannoc (Level 2 Magic-User)
  • Phasmo (Level 2 Magic-User)
  • Scamandros (Level 2 Magic-User)
    • Kiddo (Level 0 retainer Scrappy Kid)
  • Wolfgang (Level 1 Duelist)
The party returned with a golden bowl filled with coins along with the body of Feeble Finn and a decapitated body of presumably Castora. Most noticeable to the citizens of Orm, though, were two forms bond in copper wire and rope the group carried through town for they were skeletons of metal!

Riverborn Scamandros recounts the events of the delve as he toasts the fallen Feeble Finn and Castora at a wake held at the Burning Witch.

  1. Crannoc hastens off to visit his mentor, Shrune, for the week. "Very important matters, see you in a few days!"

  2. But he remembers to give Ga'Woosh the message from Brian the gnome. " 'The mouse leads the way', said a gnome named Brian. What's the meaning?

    1. You find GaWoosh just outside of town, in some wooded area. He’s chatting with animals and cooking a large pot of unknown vegetable stew.
He greets Crannoc with a warm wave, and after receiving the message, he removes his hat. From his wild hair, he produces a small mouse.
“Maybe he means this little guy”

  3. Scamandros returns from "the Complex" abrim with the excitement of many ideas, of which only a few might be accomplished within a week.

First, and chiefly, he arranges a sort of spur-of-the-moment wake for his fallen comrade Feeble Finn and Finn's compatriot Castora, spending 20 gold for free-flowing drink and food, etc. for all those at the Burning Witch. Others may pitch in further if they wish!

Secondly, as a matter of record, Scamandros counts out 56 gold for Kiddo, a third of his own share from the delve (which means that she gets a "half-share" compared to his own); such are the rewards of those loyally retained, and the promise that if ever she attains "full" status as a fellow adventurer, she could claim her own full share. (I presume that she will be healing for the next week or so, and not able to adventure again next session?)

Thirdly, in connection to that, Scamandros will take Kiddo to the armorer with the Demon-Helm to have her measured for plate armor, and pay 60 gold for such a suit to be made for her (though hopefully in the future, she will come to understand the precepts of magic, and thence eschew such material nonsense).

Fourth, a quick trip to the market to purchase a "neutral spirit"--"No, Phasmo, Pernod is not what I desire. Though I do not wish to eat the lizards' eyes, still, I do not wish them 'flavored' with anise."--in which to preserve the strange lizards' eyes for future study. (only tell me what the cost is, Nick, and I will deduct it from my character sheet)

But as to downtime that should last longer than a day or two ...
Scamandros wishes to pore over the Gnomic scrolls recovered to the Athenaeum of the Dying Sun to learn what he may from them. He speaks Gnomic; his research is largely open-ended, as in, "what can I learn about the Complex and the Gnomes from these scrolls?" But any connection between the Gnomes and the "purpose" of the Complex would certainly draw his attention down a rabbit-hole, if dis-covered ...

    1. 1. Check out the latest campaign news for XP you will get for that and what is available to others that contribute.

      2. & 3. The treasure and armor are noted. You are correct that Kiddo will have to sit out next week to heal.

      4. We will say 25sp for the necessary amount of neutral spirits.

As for Scamandros' downtime, roll 2d6+1 for his Int to reveal the success of his research.

    4. If Scamandros can follow the documents correctly, it seems like the gnomes lay claim to Indos na Egra Eithog (roughly translated as the Halls of the Distant Father or Sire) through the "Clause of Abandonment" contained in dwarven work contracts of the last 4 aeons. In summation, the clause basically states that if the owners of the structure built under contract ever abandon it, ownership of said structure reverts back to those that built it or their heirs. Which in the case of Indos na Egra Eithog would be the hill dwarf (known to some as gnome) descendants of the dwarven construction crews contracted to develop the multilevel complex which itself as designed for developing a "resettlement project" by the 537th regents of the Empire-That-Was.

310 years ago, a group of gnomes entered a transient lifestyle after a dispute over an heirloom of some sort known as "Sapthacrist" or sometimes "Sapthacris". Unable to return to their property in Soothill, the gnomes struggled to plant roots as many potential neighbors were bigoted towards a new faith the had found during their time crafting canoes for the Bitterleaf clan of Bogs Hollow. It was only in the spring of last year that these gnomes (sometimes referred to as "The Rootless") heard about a collection of documents pertaining to Indo na Egra Eithog and concrete documentation that several members of "The Rootless" were of direct lineage to the crews that built it. from some groundhogs near the Freecity of Barbasso. Only since a little after the first of the Year did the gnomes discover entry into Indo na Egra Eithog. Plans centered around the auditorium on Levels 1 and 2 seem to indicate the the gnomes were looking towards long term settlement in the area.

This topic can be delved into further.

  4. As a downtime activity, Betina would like to wander around the city visiting churches, temples, and other sacred sites in order to start familiarizing herself with the various options for places of worship in the city of Orm. She's essentially church shopping to see what feels right in accordance with her new alignment (lawful).

    1. The alley of the gods is filled with quite a few scared sites, small shrines, and displays of street religion. Some that standout to Betina include:

*An recently constructed but abandoned shrine to Danu, the Mother of the Primordial Waters.of
*The Aspirants of Mu who preach living a life of subservience to the deities with dwell within each being's body.
*The Faithful Furious are a dedicated a path modeled by "The Fury"-- a divinity of strong passions that channeled them through a warrior's discipline as she performed great feats of strength and choose to stand for love and kindness rather than a destructive blind obedience.
*The Free Prince is a deity whose tales intertwine with those of the Fury. The lore of the Prince is filled with survival through impossible circumstances and impressive displays of willpower. It also tells of how an traumatized outcast finally finds comfort in the structures of a found family. The Shrine of the Free Prince is the most popular one in all of Orm.

I might post a couple more before Friday night but I am running out of steam for the night.
