Burning Witch Adventurers Session #15-

A rather large group gathered at the Burning Witch  for the latest foray into "The Complex". After pouring over the communal map and a chaotic conversation surrounding goals of this delve, the party settled on trying to access a lower level via a feature known as "The Pit". With a horse laden with a pair of barrels, the following party traveled to the dungeon: Abraxis (Level 1 Mutant Fighter) Byndle (Level 1 Thief) Fancy Jean-Yves Beauvillers (Level 1 Bard) Turwin and Turq (Level 0 Men-At-Arms) Glys (Level 0 Crossbow Woman) Hate Pit (Level 1 Vatspawn) Banx (Level 1 Illusionist) PakPak (Level 2 Kobold) Phasmo (Level 2 Magic-User) Experience Points 300xp ea. for reaching an undiscovered part of Level 3 of the dungeon.

Adventurers of the Drinking Crow Session #7 **Updated with Bors' Latest Journal Entry**

V'Naïss Two-Face, fresh from having joined the Burning Witch regular Journeyman Crannoc's investigatory mission into Sourwood Marsh , sat with her typical adventuring companion's at their usual table at the Drinking Crow . She shared information about the results of the Sourwood mission while the group waited for Elvira Wyld to join them. Upon Elvira's arrival, the party could be overheard talking about traveling to Level 2 of "The Complex" before they sent out. The group included: Bjorn Firebeard (Level 1 Cleric of the Golden Nasher), deceased Bors Redbeard (Level 1 Dwarf) Lefty Redbeard (Level 1 Dwarf hireling) Elvira Wyld of Odellwood Abby (Level 1 Gothic Villain), deceased Malagath Fenbaros (Level 1 Elf) Relfus (Level 0 valet) V'Naïss Two-Face (Level 1 Vatspawn) The party returned with two oak chests filled with coins and Bjorn's shield turned into a sled bearing the the bodies of Bjorn and Elvira along with the paralyzed Lefty. News Around Orm and Beyond

Image
The weather has bounced around in Orm the last 14 days but as well roll into the fortnitely news round up the skies are dark and ready for rain. Here are the top news around town: The Midnight Marauders ventured into "The Complex" just the day before this latest round up. They returned bearing four chests containing a modest sum of treasure. They also returned three party members lighter. The ranks of the perished included local Cerulean War veteran and hireling Sammo , the party's quartermaster Thom Slauder , and wife to PakPak, L'Dy Megee . The Marauders  paid out weregilt to Sammo's family and PakPak. The death of Slauder especially wears on company captain Sir Rolf Van Pattyn. Most of the treasure has been spent to establish a company headquarters but the group did spend a night toasting their fallen comrades and praising Jacq Twigg--The Ghoul Slayer !!! Speaking of the Midnight Marauders , the company is selling their map (mostly of parts of Level 1

Burning Witch Session #14- Praise Transmogrifah

Over shared chestnut ales at the Burning Witch , the recently-blined Betina and the magic-user Scamandros has sent the last few weeks hatching a plan to visit a stange white "altar" that the Foreman of the Brothers had told Betina about. The fighter hoped and prayed that the transforming properties of this object revered by the mutant tribesman in "The Complex" would grant her some sort of extraordinary sense or physical mutation to help compensate for her lost sight. When the scheduled day and time for the delve came, Scamandros was nowhere to be seen (unknown to Betina, Scamandros had just gotten caught up in working arcane formula and lost track of time). Luckily for Betina, several other adventurers that frequent the Burning Witch  were interested in visiting this "White Altar" (including one that had visited it before and undergone its transmogrifying processes). Party consisting of the following adventurers and hirelings was quickly formed: Betin

Burning Witch Adventurers Session #13- Investigating in Sourwood

Image
I will add a few more elements to this post over the next week so it will be best to check back but here is the summary of Thursday night's session: A party met around a table in the Burning Witch, planning a different kind of mission, Rather than delving into "The Complex", Journeyman Crannoc was putting a group together deputized by the steward of the Impossible Fortress himself: Merdinus. The dwarven longbeard's interest has been peaked by recent reports of strange happenings out along the western edge of Sourwood Marsh. He dispatched his acquaintance Crannoc to lead a contingent in a preliminary investigation centered around the recently recovered body of a halfling named Johan Bitterleaf. He hoped that some connection between Bitterleaf's death and the strange occurrences would lead the castellan of  the Impossible Fortress to free up resources to explorer the matter further. The party, including a healthy contingent of hirelings and a marsh-friendly b

The Red Monk

Image
Known to burrowers, diggers, skulks, and dwarves--a fearsome custodian patrols the crumbing under city of Orm-of-Old. Their surname lost to the sands of time! Their origins lasting in only half-forgotten nursery rhymes and myth! They are known now only as-- The Red Monk ! Bound by some ancient oath made to some antediluvian, hypogean power-- the Red Monk keeps these tunnels free from dangerous creatures that long to settle in their abandoned spaces. In this pitch black underworld, though, they are no match for the prowess of this pious sentinel. Through rigorous training--through unlocked spiritual senses--the Red Monk masters combat and movement through the dark! A life, touched by light and lived in ruins may want one's heart to fill with pity for the Red Monk but worry not. The burrowing creatures of this neglected world are the Monk's allies and friends. It is said by some that the Red Monk first taught the hill dwarves the arts of befriending of these creatures when

Kêm

Image
Situated to the northeast of Orm, the crannog known as Kêm juts out from the rocky foot of the Gloaming Hills and over the marshland along the east bank of the River Sarn. Home to only about 23 souls, the settlement of fisherman and weavers is not as quiet as its peers in Ur-Dan. The hamlet's proximity to the old imperial road that runs through Sourwood allows Kêm to support of very modest inn and along with it-- visitors. As a result, the locals enjoy gabbing about all sorts of gossip from around Orm. A faded painting of a white pelecanidae adorns the inn, dubbed the Prattling Pelican , honoring a former leader of Kêm: a talking waterbird. Merchants in Orm who have had to travel to Kêm say: Those private rooms at the Pelican may look cramped but the 4sp per night is worth it if you can snag one of the two of them. Otherwise, you are shelling out 15 cp a night to sleep next to who knows who in the common room. And pray that local halfling vagrant, 'Oothless 'Omby, h

Ur-Dun

Image
Ur-Dan The region known as Ur-Dun was once populated with vacation homes, tourist towns, and their supporting municipalities from the capitol of the Empire-That-Was back when that power stretched continents and mortal beings still possessed the spark to achieve such peaks of grandeur. In the epochs of the following aeon, the region has collapsed from holiday destination into petty and in-fighting, self-styling "City-States" which possess delicate truces with obtuse elfin courts, are besieged by rebellious Sea Kings to the Southwest and fierce Amazonian tribes to the Northeast, and whose wilderness are riddled with dangerous monstrosities. Some might say times are bleak but, hey, the sun is going to die soon anyways. Sourwood Marsh Situated in the center of the region, the wetlands known as the Sourwood Marsh once provided some of the richest farmland in all the Empire-That-Was. The land had been drained and filled but with the collapse of Empire

Adventurers of the Drinking Crow Session #6 **Updated with a Journal Entry by Bors**

It seems that a darker mood rolled into the Drinking Crow with the recent storms. The clientele frown are the ghastly corpse found at the Burning Witch and talk at length about how something like that would never happen at the Drinking Crow . Antermule Anthrip Antherson, Esq. and Professor Pondriferous Clud sourly discuss this new "Library" being set up by a trio of magic-users and a half-elf. The investigator, Fredrick Featherstone, while working angles on the missing person's case of Kameel the Torchwell Girl (who is not apart of Bartimus Fludge's caravan like it was rumored); finds himself lost into a consuming obsession of Elvira Wylde and fully lost in her thrall. The funerals performed for tavern regulars Rustam of the Twin Lakes ,  Fräänk Shäärk, and Tom still sat fresh in the minds of patrons. This is the mood that the regular party of adventurers operating from the Crow plan their delve into the now-emptied sections of Level 2 once held by some gnomes.  Wi

Traveling Merchants! Mob Vengeance! Ancients Libraries! Rival Adventurers! This is the Orm News Update!

The folks in Orm have been enjoying the pleasant spring weather that has been around in the fortnite since the Veneral Equinox. The weather isn't the only topic folks in Orm have been discussing. Here is the latest word on the street in the City-State: A couple of mornings ago a decapitated body holding a bloody bindle containing a severed head was found by the morning staff of the Burning Witch . The body, propped in the tavern's doorway, is said to be that of a transient recent to Orm known as "Bindle" . Orm's Civil Defense Force have been unable to turn up any leads in the murder but one name has been on the lips of Burning Witch patrons as the party responsible: The Crooked Hand ! The tavern rumor mill is filled with gossip of how "Bindle" owed the Ormian thieves guild a not small amount of gold for an unknown transgression. More telling may be that the body displayed the crime organization's calling card: a broken right hand. Some say, with

Burning Witch Adventurers Session #11 **Updated with Slithering Devil Bestiary Drawing**

Sitting in the entrance of the Burning Witch one morning sat the decapitated body of the thief known as Bindle. Slung over his shoulder was his bindle, blood dripping from the cloth which contained--the rogue's head!!! His right hand was broken, resting in his lap. No one saw who had left the body but only one name was on the lips of the tavern patrons--The Crooked Hand! Arriving soon after was Bindle's brother, Byndle, to deal with his sibling's remains. Byndle, life his brother, was also a thief by trade. He met with his sibling's fellow adventurers and soon after, they were off to "The Complex". But, wait, you ask. "Who were they?!?" Well, the party this time consisted of: Party: Betina (Level 1 Fighter) now blinded Kay Em Dee (Level-0 Tuff) Byndle (Level 1 Thief) Frim Frimerson (Level 1 Fighter) now missing a nose Hate Pit (Level 1 Vat-Spawn) Banx (Level 1 Illusionist) PakPak (Level 1 Kobold) The group returned to the Burning

Burning Witch Adventurers Session #10 (Including Maps)

Much has been happening at the Burning Witch of late. The neophyte magic-user known has Phasmo rented the attic of the tavern to establish a laboratory of sorts. A prisoners, rumored around the tavern to be a member of the Order of the Illuminated Eye, was brought the attic against bar keep Rosie's protests. Patrons heard her yell at Phasmo, "She no stay here. This tavern, no prison!" A party of adventurers coalesced days later in the tavern common room, reflecting upon newly acquired intelligence from the prisoner before setting out to "The Complex". They were: Journeyman Crannoc (Level 1 Magic-User) Many-faced Gene (Level 1 Assassin) Phasmo (Level 1 Magic-User) Scamaneros (Level 1 Magic-User and fellow to Journeyman Crannoc & Phasmo in the Transcendental Congress of the Aureate Prespets)  Kiddo (Level 0 Scrappy Youth) Sergio Cankersore (Level 1 Half-Elf) Sir Basileus (Level 1 Fighter and Knight of the Morningstar) Here are maps from

Interlude 2 **The 237th Meeting of the Society of the Coruscating Seal**

Image
It is after suppertime, in the twilight hours, that the Society of the Coruscating Seal meet. It is in the moments  that they feel the energies of the far off Twilight Court, once sovereigns of this place known as Orm, seep back to the home they are exiled from and grant a bit more magic to everything. The society, as the also do, lay claim to the long community table they donated to the Drinking Crow  back in 390. They adorn the oak surface as always with cloth of gold and indigo. With three plucks at the strings of a fairy harp, the  witch's candle is lit to ward against "jealous practitioners of the arcane artistries from scrying on the profound contents of this gathering" and the official minutes begin. In attendance of this meeting of theoretical magicians are members  Professor Pondriferous Clud, Sir Jerimue of Blackleaf Lodge, Doctor Ravee Achewile, the Esteemed Claudnitus Vale, and Matron Fiophone Starr. It is noted that members Lady Celestine Muirk, Sir Dev

Sergio Canksore the Half-Elf, Betina the Veteran, Avreml Oofnik the Beet Thief, and the pair of Neophyte Magic-Users Journeyman Crannoc and Phasmo--this loose association of the adventurers have all gather, let us say, in the attic room of the Burning Witch that Phasmo rents as his "laboratory". Seated before the group is their prisoner--a member of the Order of the Illuminated Eye. Upon exiting the underground structure, the Order initiate became immediately disoriented as her eyes meet the pale horizon under the light of that bloated, flickering sun. After a moment of disbelief, consciousness vacated her faculties and the party bore the fainted being to the Burnig Witch . It is only now that she stirs awake--propped up in a wooden chair. The drafty air causes her exposed skin to erupt in goose bumps, her strange armor rests on the other side of the room on Phasmo's workbench. She--Illuminit Sooz'awn--demands to know where you have taken her! "Is this some
