Burning Witch Adventurers Session #13- Investigating in Sourwood
I will add a few more elements to this post over the next week so it will be best to check back but here is the summary of Thursday night's session:
A party met around a table in the Burning Witch, planning a different kind of mission, Rather than delving into "The Complex", Journeyman Crannoc was putting a group together deputized by the steward of the Impossible Fortress himself: Merdinus. The dwarven longbeard's interest has been peaked by recent reports of strange happenings out along the western edge of Sourwood Marsh. He dispatched his acquaintance Crannoc to lead a contingent in a preliminary investigation centered around the recently recovered body of a halfling named Johan Bitterleaf. He hoped that some connection between Bitterleaf's death and the strange occurrences would lead the castellan of the Impossible Fortress to free up resources to explorer the matter further.
The party, including a healthy contingent of hirelings and a marsh-friendly beast of burden, set out for the fishing village of Kêm and the nearby marshlands. They returned with a variety of news for Merdinus but minus two hirelnigs. L'il PakPak died gruesomely at the hands of some creauture called a "boggin" while Mad Mabily was merely dragged off under the surface of the water by another of the large marsh dwelling monsters. According to Kiddo, the word is that Mad Mabily is probably enslaved by the boggins.
The party:
If anyone is interested in doing a downtime activity, post in the comments below.
P.S. Aleks, could you roll a d6 to see if Kiddo takes a level?

Crannoc recommends great caution in exploring the Swamp. Have a few levels under your belt, that shit was horrific. Poor Li'l PakPak, he was so proud of being drug-free. does he have a mother?
ReplyDeleteNick, I rolled a 4 for Kiddo. My downtime action will be teaching Phasmos the spell Sleep.
Yes, Phasmo will work with Carnnoc to master this new magic this downtime.
DeleteFancy would like to spend his downtime by chumming it up with some able-bodied veterans with the intent of hiring them as body-guards/men-at-arms. This is of course after he spends 100 gp on a flashy gold rope-chain and pinky rings which he tells them is a typical haul of the loot in his adventures. I'm willing to spend more to hire as many mercenaries as he can.
ReplyDeleteBesides that, he will attempt to get some gigs performing in local inns, clubs, or whatever.
To the Parent(s)/Legal Guardian of Lil' Pak' pak,
ReplyDeleteIt is with my deepest condolences that I must inform you of the passing of Lil' Pak' pak in the course of his duties as a link-boy in my temporary hire. During my brief time I was struck by Lil' Pak'pak's high spirits and his willpower. There was nothing he was more proud of than being a drug-free young man, despite being surrounded by fiending wastrels of his own age. The entirety of the adventuring profession here in Orm looked forward to his development in our employ.
Alas, we lost him to a monster attack in Sourwood Marsh. I will divulge all that I am able to. You understand, state secrets. Sent there by the seneschal Merdinus, we were investigating reports of strange doings and murders that you may have heard. Wary of the inhabitants of Kem, we nevertheless found some information; rumors of a REDACTED, and a deceased person with a body inflicted with some REDACTED and REDACTED. We sped outward on a canoe to a site of unusual events, some kind of rainbow exuding REDACTED that had burst down from REDACTED. It was here that we had the two fateful encounters with large swamp-dwelling creatures that we learned were called REDACTED. During the second encounter a REDACTED reached towards Lil' Pak'pak and...I will spare you the details. We were unable to recover his body.
Know that your child/ward was truly an inspiration to other link-boys and porters in this profession and we will never forget him. Included are 30 gold pieces of the common local currency to defray the costs of all the necessary prayers and ceremonies. In honor of my deep love and respect for your child/ward, if you should need further resources feel free to put a letter in the post.
Again my deepest condolence,
Journeyman Crannoc, Burning Witch current resident.
