Adventurers of the Drinking Crow Session #7 **Updated with Bors' Latest Journal Entry**

V'Naïss Two-Face, fresh from having joined the Burning Witch regular Journeyman Crannoc's investigatory mission into Sourwood Marsh, sat with her typical adventuring companion's at their usual table at the Drinking Crow. She shared information about the results of the Sourwood mission while the group waited for Elvira Wyld to join them. Upon Elvira's arrival, the party could be overheard talking about traveling to Level 2 of "The Complex" before they sent out. The group included:

  • Bjorn Firebeard (Level 1 Cleric of the Golden Nasher), deceased
  • Bors Redbeard (Level 1 Dwarf)
    • Lefty Redbeard (Level 1 Dwarf hireling)
  • Elvira Wyld of Odellwood Abby (Level 1 Gothic Villain), deceased
  • Malagath Fenbaros (Level 1 Elf)
    • Relfus (Level 0 valet)
  • V'Naïss Two-Face (Level 1 Vatspawn)
The party returned with two oak chests filled with coins and Bjorn's shield turned into a sled bearing the the bodies of Bjorn and Elvira along with the paralyzed Lefty. The group bought plots for their fallen comrades in the Garden of Eternal Night. Bjorn's cousin, Stench, came to Orm at news of the death of his kin. Meanwhile, the investigator Fredrick Featherstone, romantically obsessed with Elvira, has pledged to join future delves in order to get to the bottom of her death.

From Bors' player Shahnawaz, here is the latest:

Bors’ Journal
Entry four:
The complex has brought so much death. It’s true, that it has showered us with a goodly amount of riches and some interesting discoveries, but at the cost of many.  Not only from our group, but form the Burning Witch crews as well, not to mention the hirelings.  It makes one philosophical knowing that they are facing their potential death every time they wonder into that accursed place.  What even is it? Was this part of the Empire-that-was? Was it set apart even then? These are questions I want answers too, this is what still drives me to go. The mystery of The Complex compels me to keep going.  But I’m being smart about it, I’m not going to hoard all my cut like some sort of maniac. Gabby is going to have it, not all of it, of course, I will need funds to finance my ventures into The Complex, but he has a good thing going here at the Drinking Crow.  I’ve put most of my coin into the place.  After losing my boss, Fränk Shark, Biff, Tom, Genevieve, and now most recently Bjorn Firebeard, and Elvira Wyld, and almost losing my dear brother Lefty, I have a new outlook in life.  What good is the money we get from the place if we just die without using it? I’m going to make Gabby rich! The Redbeard name will prosper in Orm!
I hear Bjorn’s cousin is in town now, I will hand over to him the holy symbol that Bjorn always carried with him. Before we knew he would come, the Great Hero Malagath, V’Näiss and I split up the loot after we paid for the burials.  I knew how closely Elvira was with Genevieve, so we buried them next to each other. Although now I think we should always carry a spare shield, a macabre reminder that someone will eventually die in the quest for knowledge and riches, and it’s always useful to have a way to carry the bodies out.  There is no way I’m going to leave another person in there to face the wrath of undeath.

The party is looking to sell these metallic bones and skulls but have not made moves to sell to anyone yet. If anyone has interest, I am sure they would entertain offers.

Bors and the Drinking Crow

The Drinking Crow has been a nice, quite tavern in Orm. Bors, cousin of owner Gabby, has been thinking maybe a little too quite. Sure, the Society of the Coruscating Seal meet there. A few veterans of the Cerulean Wars come in for a pint or two. The tavern, however, just isn't getting the boom of activity that the Burning Witch is getting as most of the adventuring class in Orm flock there to plan adventures, have meeting, etc. Apparently, even one of the adventurers has started renting out the upstairs of that place. So, anyways, Bors has decided to try to build up the Crow's client base by bringing some higher quality drinks like berry wines from the elves of the Twilight Shore and spirits made by gnomes in Soot Hill. Sure, it has spent 500gp in the experiment but so far it seems to be working and his cousin's establishment has been busier lately.

Comments

  1. For my downtime activity, I want to research potential uses for these metal covered bones

    1. How would you like to do that? Use the library? See if the local smith will work with you? Something else?

    2. I would like to see if I could use the library. I feel like they might have potential magical uses. If I try and do not succeed in finding anything from my first downtime, the second downtime would be then to try and work with a smith to see if there is enough metal in these skeletons to make some armor or a weapon.

    3. For the first one, I believe it will be 100gp for you to research the topic as much as you like (including future downtimes). If you decided to pay it, you will need to roll 2d6+1 for Bors' 13 Int. a 7 to 9 will be partial success. A 10+ will be a total success. What specifically are you trying to find out about the metallic bones?

As for you second question, the local blacksmiths are at a loss related to the bones. They metal is unknown to them and the coating actually isn't that much. If you want to use that downtime for something else, no worries.
