Burning Witch Adventurers Session #23- Canoeing in the Complex

Scamandros once again presented his plans of visiting the yeast fields in the northern caverns of "The Complex". This time, he presented it to a lot fellow adventurers as the kicking off point for a trip on the waters Scamandros saw on his last delve into the dungeon. The group seemed won over by the idea of a dungeon canoe trip. Soon, the following group was seen traveling down to the harbor to get their unseaworthy vessels:

  • Betina (Level 1 Fighter)
  • Fancy Jean-Yves Beauvillers (Level 1 Bard)
    • Turwin and Turq (Level 0 hireling men-at-arms)
    • Glys (Level 0 hireling crossbow woman)
  • Fergus (Level 1 Magic-User)
  • Hate Pit (Level 2 Vat-spawn)
    • Banx (Level 1 retainer Illusionist)
  • PakPak (Level 3 Kobold)
  • Scamandros (Level 2 Magic-User)
The group returned in mostly good spirits (though they were debating with Fancy his controversial views on dwarves and gnomes). Hate Pit carried a strange, pale blue sword with a hilt in the shape of a serpent.

Here is Scamandros' recounting of events to his retainer Kiddo.

In the back of the Burning Witch, Banx could be heard heard rambling on about the adventure as she played dice with her old pals. There was talk of purple lizards, gnomes named Brian what dig on statues of ladies, and how her chromatic orb turned the tide in battle against some dust old undead dude. She left the game with a deed to a small house. A few days later, she could be seen moving in with her recovering partner, Ur-Kel.

Loot

  • 1 pint of red crystalline liquid valuable to magic-users for projects worth 100gp
  • 1 ruby and gold serpent necklace worth 2500gp

  • Pale blue sword, magical (claimed by Hate Pit)

  • 2680gp from treasure
  • Disturbed undead 1 x 50xp
Player Character Cut
  • 415gp ea. (191gp half share to Banx)

Let me know if you have any downtime activities you would like to pursue. Like always, you can gain xp equal to 100 x PC level in xp for maps, art, or play recaps.

Hate Pit must investigate the pale blue blade more to discover its secrets either by researching at the Athenaeum of the Dying Sun or by attending a meeting of the Society of the Coruscating Seal.

  1. Scamandros has a couple minor details to take care of before delving into his downtime activity of further research:

    1) The three vials of honeywater that may (or may not) have burgeoning yeast colonies within he will wrap the openings with cheesecloth, and then set aside; if yeasts are present, the "trub" of dormant yeasts settling out should become clearly evident as scum along the bottom of the flasks in due time.
Likewise, the bread dough should hopefully rise soon, in which case Scamandros would have it baked in the Burning Witch's oven, if possible, and then begin the experimentation of eating it ...

    2) 100 of Scamandros' share of gold will be proffered to Kiddo. "Indeed, you may not have been on this adventure yourself, but I would find it unseemly in myself, or any man of honor, to come into good fortune, and not to share it with friends and followers. As the poets say, 'It's best to have abundance, thence to freely give; / the man who hoards his all can scarce be said to live.'"

But as to actual downtime ... though fain would I learn another spell ... Scamandros will continue his research into the Rootless Gnomes of Soothill and the Indos na Egra Eithog. The purpose of the research for this week is twofold:

    1) To eke out a little more information about the Clause of Abandonment, the claims of descent of the Rootless, and the dwarven construction crews.
(the "new faith" discovered while canoe-building, while a most intriguing subject, seems it will have to wait; likewise the "Sapthacrist")

    2) To collate my notes into a short treatise, "The Deeds of the Soothill Gnomes", a gesta-type history outlining their uprooting from Soothill, travels 'round-country, their canoe-crafting in Bogs Hollow, and their coming to the Indos na Egra Eithog ... and to copy it out twice, one to offer as tribute to the Impossible Fortress, the other to retain as a reference in our own Athenaeum.

    1. I will have to get back to you on the yeast and the interaction with Kiddo is noted. As for the downtimes, I will need you to roll 2d6+1 for Scamandros' 13 Int for your non-magical research on the Clause of Abandonment.

    2. Rolled a 6 on the dice, +1 = 7 altogetheer.

    3. The yeast traps yield no interesting results. The research, along with a few of your other downtime odds and ends are going to be covered in a few upcoming blog posts. I have gotten behind for a few folks.
