Adventurers of the Drinking Crow Session #59: Zonked

Image
The seats of the Drinking Crow  were once again filled with souls eager for the thrill of adventure. For months, the dungeon delving regulars of the tavern have been missing. Someone say they are wintering on the very moon itself! As a result, the establishment has seen 111th Company members, Phantamorians, and Cerulean War veterans but not those that hear that deep call for adventure. Then last week, the vatspawn B ëx was spotted with a trio of others drawn to Orm by the promises of reward from 'The Complex': hard won coin, ancient knowledge, and thrilling yarns to share. Drinking Crow proprietor Gabby was excited to have a group of adventurers planning a delve in his tavern once again. The following group was seen heading off towards the Iron Gate of the Rani with an abundant supply of wolves bane: B ëx (Level 1 Vat Spawn) Kobys (Level 1 Lunar Elf) Rumble Beerforge (Level 1 Dwarf) Theela Ruul (Level 0 Amazon hireling) Scheherazade (Level 1 Paladin) The buff paladin Scheher...

Demon Slayers of the Drinking Crow Sessions #52 to #58- The Trial of the Dreaming Tree

Image
After some hemming and hawing around the Drinking Crow, the adventurers called the Demon Slayers had decided to fix their standing with the Lunar Elves camped out on Level 3 of 'The Complex'. After some perceived transgressions by the adventurers with the magical Rillis Atamyr Kerym, Kedrim Sarya presented a path towards atonement to the party. If they succeeded a spiritual trial offered up by the elves' Dreaming Tree, they would be able to travel with the Lunar Elves back to their home. The following party left the Drinking Crow on a late autumn morning, heading towards the Athanaeum of the Dying Sun: Armeen of the Two Rivers (Level 3 Cleric of Danu) Jubal (Level 1 Beast Master retainer) Minotaur (hunting dog) Copra Kaan (Level 6 Vat Spawn Antaur) Crambo (Level 4 Magic-User) Agera (Level 1 Fighting Mutant) Father Bert (Level 4 Errant Friar of Arishem the Judge) The party returned to Orm only briefly. Several of them were armed with magic weapons that strikingly matched a...

Among the Lunar Elves Pt. 1

Image
The Moon is back as a major topic in the Twilight Age. The adventurers based out of the Drinking Crow have been running down tasks for a group of elves camped out on Level 3 of 'The Complex'. First the returned some magic items which earned them a slot in accompanying the Lunar Elf chosen Ruaiat and Aerual on their quest to the Black Pyramid when it manifests. Now they have just finished a seven session side quest undertaking a trial from the elves' Dream Tree (the spiritual guiding hand of their elfin collectivist society) in order to earn the honor of visiting the Moon. The last time the Moon a subject of excitement among the Twilight Age players, I was working on an in-campaign zine I never finished. Here is a page I wrote about the Moon:   I used the term 'moon elf' in that excerpt but I didn't mean someone like this: I mean beings like this blue-skinned void ship crew that I know regularly refer to as 'Lunar Elves': I imagine their lunar home, whic...

PakPak's ShopShop and Death of the Wizard Kings

Image
It has been too quite over here. I have been toiling away on #dungeon23 but fell significantly behind on inking over my text and embellishing pages. As a result, I haven't had anything scannable in ages. After a holiday hiatus, the Twilight Age campaign itself is slowly coming back to life. The Demon Slayers from the Drinking Crow are working their way through a trial to prove their worth to the Dreaming Tree of the Lunar Elves. They started this quest back in December. Once that wraps up, I will be able to synch up game timelines and get things running properly again. In the mean time, a pair of Twilight Age players are running Kickstarters at least somewhat-inspired by their time adventuring at the end of the world. There is about a week left to back both of them. PakPak's ShopShop by Rob Armbrister Rob A. brought his kobold PakPak to the second-ever session of the Twilight Age . Somehow, the scrappy fella has survived and continues to hatch schemes in Orm. Rob's grand...

Dungeon23 Week 3 + 1

Image
So, I already have not stuck to my Sunday update schedule. While I found it hard to keep up with the week due to my continuing sleep troubles and starting odd hours at work as we start inventory, none of that is why this is a day late. One of the reasons for the delay is I decided to include Sunday's room(s) with the week because it completed the idea I was working through with this set of rooms. Another reason is that the weekly schedule started to make less sense as the end of the month approaches and it is going to fall on a Tuesday, It could be very likely that I post Week Four along with those rooms from the last three days of the month and a complete map of Level 1A. We shall see. This week's set of rooms focus on living areas and introduce a new faction to the dungeon: the visiting circle of magic-users known as the Sempiternal Utterance of the Crimson Bond. Some Notes on Process This week see me revisiting several concepts from the tent-pole dungeon of my What Fools T...

Dungeon23 Week Two

Image
Here are results from my second week of #dungoen23. I am thinking at the end of the month I will post the full map. As I work, though, I have been making smaller segmented ones that just focus on what I am creating for the week (though this map does have some placement of elements of the tunnel from last week's 1A-1 ). I hope my writing and under drawing in red lead doesn't make things too hard to read. It comes out much darker in the scan than in my journal. It is a hold over from my process from my comics. This week's map has hints of Twilight Age lore starting with the first room covering the session of Archwizards of the Transcendental Congress of the Aureate Precepts . Anyways, here are rooms 1A-8 to 1A-14: Some Notes on Process Room 1A-8 might be my favorite of #dungeon23 so far. It took a lot of a Sunday to complete but I had a fun time sketching up the assorted Archwizards. I have a feeling they will show up in other ways as I expand the dungeon. It feels like the...

Dungeon23 Week One

Image
The map so far The first week of #dungeon23 has passed. Those looking to see what folks have been getting up to should check out this round up at Mazirian's Garden by Ben. Fittingly, the blog's name shake has been on of the things on my mind I have been plotting out my own entry: the grounds of a wizard's manse. I have a strong suspicion that it is the home of the Archwizard of the Transcendental Congress of Aureate Precepts , Merzhin. This head of this wizardly institution is more than likely currently absentee from the grounds (and also more than likely deceased having accidently eaten a poison mushroom or berry in a simply foraging misstep). This seclusion has a connection to the realm of elves and probably is built on top of some stronghold of a defeated Wizard King. That is what I have as a premise for now. Those that want more insight can chekc out the back half of the post. Here is the work I did this week: Some Notes on Process As I was working on my map this wee...
