Burning Witch Adventurers Session #35- The Song of the Harpies

A very unusual thing happened in Orm this week. An adventurer from the Drinking Crow ventured up from the harbor and past the Monument of the Gods to join a party form the Burning Witch in adventure in the Complex. Not since Bors Redbeard joined in the mission where he declared the kobold PakPak a, "hero," many months back has such a thing occurred (we'll not talk about the mission to Sourwood that V'nais Two-Face joined in at the moment least our eyes turn too far from Orm and 'The Complex'). Yet, a rather new and fresh-faced adventurer decided to cross tavern lines. The following party he joined seemed uncertain of their intentions in 'The Complex' outside of a visit to the Foreman:

  • Copra Kaan (Level 1 Vat Spawn)
  • GaWoosh (Level 2 Gnome)
    • Aspirant Traz (Level 1 Cleric of the Aspirants of Mu hireling)
  • Journeyman Crannoc (Level 4 Magic-User)
    • Lirazil (Level 1 Helf hireling)
  • Morata (Level 1 Hob)
  • Thea Noir (Level 3 Assassin)
The party returned with their moral visibly low, covered in bruises, and carrying a filthy sack filled with rattling coin. A gaunt and week stranger was in the their number and quickly deposited to a room for recovery. Copra Kaan of the Drinking Crow could be seen with strange, fresh scars on his throat. Not long after their return, irritated squawks and screams could be heard from the general direction of Crannoc's quarters.

A harpy by Morata (and PakPak)'s player Rob A.

Found lying near the Monument of the Old Gods was the following written on a scrap of paper:

Copra Kään’s To-Do List:

-Meet some new adventurers.
-Find our that there’s supposedly one Sorcerer-King left (note to self: overthrow Valtropis).
-Follow some Vat-Spawn.
-Free Valtropis’ clone, Valtropis.
-Avoid some beetles.
-Resist falling under some Harpies’ spell.
-Knock our Crannoc, who fell under the Harpies’ spell.
-Get help from some dwarves.
-Defeat the Harpies.
-Get some treasure.
-Install a beautiful new singing voice!

Aspirant Traz and Lirazil both took their cut of the treasure and decided to try to paint Orm red. The even with a noticeable lack of citizens out and about, the two were able to make a mark. Traz held up his patron's for the adventure, GaWoosh, ability to resist the song of the harpies that turned most of other party members into desperate thralls.  Traz's drinking turned ugly when asked about he fair against the harpies. A few days later, he resurfaced to drunkenly entreat citizens of Orm to not let themselves be shackled by the Yellow Fever but to move as the tyrant-god within willed it through the city-state. His actions lead to several citizens having a conflict with the Orm Civil Defense Force. The resulting riot lead to one death and dozens injured. Traz is currently wanted for inciting a riot.

Lirazil ended up trying her hand at the games of chance popular in the back rooms of Orm. As she played, she told a tale of Ogre fights and the terrible experience of being lost under the spell of a song of the harpies. She told of the scattered corpses of harpy victims just left to rot on floor below their nest. She is over heard talking about a strange tribe of dwarves of that live of Level 3 of the Complex and how, even though their leader's blade accidently found GaWoosh's back, they saved the party from becoming the latest victims to carpet the floor of the harpies' lair. When it was all said and done, Lirazil won a large pot of coin as she entertained her opponents with her tale.
