The Districts of Topside- Royal Bay

Royal Bay (Southeast Topside)

Bluestone and slate-roofed cottages overlook the harsh rocks lapped by the flow of phlogistan rolling in from the Astral Sea. The remains of beached monstrosities and wrecked astral vessels dragged in by the cosmic tide litter the rocks.

10. The Three Wizards

This crumbling coastal estate has been repurposed into lodgings for those lost souls who have yet to establish a permanent domicile in Topside. Callidine, one who speaks with two voices, is like a midwife ushering those newly arrived into life on Dungeon World. The following lodgings can be secured on a monthly basis as no one is just “passing through” Dungeon World:

*The Common Room (3gp)- a spot can be found among the tented silks around the room’s pool of fresh water. Those that do must pass a Constitution check or suffer a -1 penalty to attack and damages on their next delve due to bad sleep. Those that fail also have a 1-in-6 chance of falling to memorize a spell (roll for each slot they can prepare).

*The Bunk Room (15gp)- a large hall off of the common room has been converted into a bunk room. While the space does not offer the complete privacy needed to safely leave items behind, it does allow for easy rest.

*Private Room (30gp)- the six private rooms above the common room offer both sound sleep and a safe place to tuck item one doesn’t want to drag with them on a delve. Those who have purchased one of the rooms may also partake of the Mourning Lotus-- grown in the common room pool. Those that do opt for the ritual plant enter into a Spiritual Exercise that seeks peace with what one grieves most. Users of the bloom due run a 1-in-10 chance of becoming addicted to it.

11. The House of the Bone Pickers

A ramshackle wooden structure built on beams made of the bones of beached space whales sits just south of Royal Bay proper. This is the home of the 4” tall and one-armed Master Swift and her Bone Pickers- a guild pulled from the mixing pot of the most desperate lost souls stuck on Dungeon World. They make their way pilfering anything of use or value from whatever the flow of the phlogistan pulls in. Those looking to Build an Institution in Topisde always end up turning to the Bone Pickers. From their reclaimed stockpiles, many find the resources needed to construct or improve institutions. They can also provide loans up to 5000gp for such projects from their treasury of valuables reclaimed from wrecked astral ships. These loans have a monthly interest rate of 10% and must be paid back within one month for each 1000gp borrowed.

X. The Abandoned Lot

A faded sign hangs from the front of this old building. Once, this is where those eager to learn two of Dungeon World’s most beloved contests- those of story and song- would come. Now, it is a decay frame that leans towards collapse the way one does towards their bed. Maybe someday soon it will fall into its eternal rest?

Entrance to the Sapphire Hall

The location of this entrance has been lost to time.
