The Districts of Topside- Ashtown
Ashtown (Southwest Topside)
It is said that all the narrow streets and twisting alleys of Ashtown lead to the fountain courtyard catty-corner of the necropolis. They are dotted with the white-washed homes of petty bureaucrats, the families of dragoons, and the occasional arcanist. At the courtyard itself rest the three most significant buildings in Ashtown.
1. Ashtown Stationers
Labyrinthine aisles of book crafting supplies snake around this single-floor establishment. The smell of pipeweed smoke and the sounds of magic-users locked in joyous debate lead to the shop’s oak counter. There, the blind proprietor named Old Emrys holds court in front of a shelf of rare materials for the spellbook illuminations essential for completing Spellcraft downtimes. The following mundane supplies can be purchased here:
*A vial of ink (1gp)
*A quill (1gp)
*Parchment (1gp per 2 sheets)
*Scroll case (1gp)
2. The Lodge of the Five Dragons
An old sign featuring five dragons locked in a pentangle marks this two-story lodge as the meeting place of Dungeon World’s knights. It is said that five great chairs circle a mighty oak table in the building’s great hall but no one has set foot inside in ages besides the cloak-shroaded Caretaker. Even though generations have passed since anyone has been knighted in the service of Dungeon World, the place is kept in well-repair. Non-knighted visitors are allowed to use the Five Knights’ Reading Room where they can use the journals kept there to Research the previous knights’ adventures.
3. The Ivory Pinnacles
At the end of the courtyard sits an often-used and poorly maintained municipal building that houses the last functioning elements of Topside’s government- its bureaucracy and tax collection. Many licenses and permits are issued here including adventurers’ Class Licenses. This is also where Company Charters are registered with the Vice Chancellor and deferred taxes on treasure are paid on Taxgiving. Bright-eyed new arrivals or exhausted old hands alike can be found wandering the halls, eager to be Recruited under single-delve retainer permits rather than navigate the bureaucracy of the Ivory Pinnacles on their own.
Entrance to the Alabaster Hall-
In the depths of the Ivory Pinnacles is a dungeon door guarded by a pair of constructs- the Alabaster Guardians. Those that purchase permits (5gp per party member) are allowed access to the Alabaster Hall below. Upon the issuing of a permit, holders must select between a 5% treasure tax to be collected at the end of each delve or a 10% deferred tax collected on Taxgiving. Permits last until the next Taxgiving and taxes must be current to be issued a new one.
