Burning Witch Adventurers Session #98- The Summons of the Eventide Queen

Drinking at the Burning Witch, PakPak lamented to the barkeep Jakki about lingering obligations he had in the Twilight Shores. These debts were passed to him when his wife of just a few weeks died in 'The Complex' along with several of her fellow Midnight Maruaders. A week of debaucherous carousing saw him married to the minorest of hob nobility, the Lady Meggee. Three years after her death, PakPak had yet to fulfill her family's obligation to secure hob support for Lady Blackmarsh.

The Beholder Kiddo found PakPak's desire to return to the Twilight Shores auspicious as she, via song bird, had received a summons to appear before the Eventide Queen that now ruled the Twilight Shores. Kiddo had been among the party that had freed her from her captivity by the Imperial Mother thus allowing her to ascend to her rightful leadership the elfin domain. Kiddo suggested to PakPak that maybe they combine their efforts in a trip to the mysterious elfin realm.

Before setting off on their quest, the Kiddo grabbed someone of her wine from Riverwine. They also recruited a pair of experienced travelers in the Twilight Shores to help navigate their way. The following party were seen heading towards the Drinking Crow at twilight:

  • Kiddo (Level 3 Magic-User)
  • PakPak (Level 5 Kobold)
  • Phasmo (Level 5 Magic-User)
    • Lirazil (Level 2 Elf retainer)
As the party traveled down the cliff face stairs to the harbour where the Drink Crow sat, PakPak caught a whiff of ozone in the air. Scanning the area, a form turned into a silhouette by the fading light could be spotted above. The group pressed themselves up close to the side of the stair hoping to obscure themselves while Phasmo cloaked himself in an invisibility spell. As he made his way back up the stairs, a piece of wall crumbled away from the wall above. It fell towards the party, striking Kiddo and PakPak. When Phasmo reached the top, no one was above but the smell of ozone hung in the air.

The party regrouped on the stairs. Lirazil healed Kiddo with the powers she unlocked from the pillars on Level 2 of 'The Complex'. Phasmo mused about whether the attack was on the whole party or if it was an assassination attempt by 'Mirror People' he betrayed.

The group made their way into the Drinking Crow. It was a quite night. The Red Riders most recent delve with Journeyman Crannoc as a bust treasure wise so the tavern this week was not filled with the liveliness that came with the coin of a successful haul. Instead, old Dragon Slayers shared tales of adventures past. This seemed to draw the patrons well enough allowing the party to slip up into the rafters above and into the Twlight Shore's drinking hole known as the Hob Nob.

They were not spotted again until the closing hour of the Drinking Crow. The tavern keep Gabby spotted them leaving as he shooed away the mutant retainer Agera. The group was overheard lamenting the cold shoulder PakPak and Lirazil received from the Hob Nob's patrons. Apprently most of the hobs have retreated to the fields near Sour Marsh as they attempt to avoid the politics this closing age. Politics Lirazil and PakPak are very much wrapped up in.

The group was not seen again until they were spotted exiting the ShopShop at twilight the next day. Rasher heavies smoking in outside at the Wolves Den saw them descending a nearby staircase so they could approach the Burnt Copse. They emerged from the Copse a dawn. Those they passed were left with the scent of cool evening breeze and alcohol. They could be seen huddled, discussing next steps before going their separate ways.

The Eventide Queen asked Kiddo (and her companions) to...

When the Eventide Queen was freed, a member of the party (possibly Phasmo) mused to the her about the troubles that ailed Orm what possible aid she might have to give. She finally reached out with an offer of assistance if the party could prove their wits by telling her the true faces of the Wards of the Rani The Eventide. They must be discovered without being caught.

The Eventide Queen says that one of the Wards of the Rani is wicked. That a second is tricksey. A third Ward is false. Tell her which Ward is which. Have agreed to hearing the ask, the party is bound to try to solve it. They have until Mischief Night.

Phasmo requested aid against the beings from the World of Reflection...

The Eventide Queen seemed very uninterested in the issue. She did offer that, if Phasmo can retrieve some item of her and the Imperial Mother's past lives then she would grant some help. Such items hve been hidden somewhere not far from the Imperial Mother's Throne room.

The Margrave Quinus longs for new sensations...

The Margave Quinis lamented to Phasmo how none of the adventurers that he has befriended have brought him new libations to sip or poems to delight his ears. Phasmo promised to bring him something soon.

PakPak has two paths forward...

The archivist Glowerm delivers PakPak some bad news about his ability to escape the kobold's deceased wife's contract with Lady Blackmarsh.

PakPak is bound by a contract between Lady Meggee's line and Lady Blackmarsh to shore up some hob support for the former regent of the Twilight Shores. Lady Blackmarsh has fallen out of favor in the Twilight Court has removed herself to Hesper Hall deep in the Frisulating Fens. Having research the document binding Lady Megee's family to Lady Blackarsh with the aid of a fey archivist, it seems that PakPak has little choice as to become embroiled in the Twilight Court's politics as long as he is Lady Megee's widow. The archivist, Glowerm, did suggest that a raven that roosted outside a abandoned flophouse in Orm may be able to provide a lead to PakPak about getting his marriage annulled and, thus, out of his contractual obligations.
