Demon Slayers of the Drinking Crow Session #67- Get Rich or Be Eat By A Shadowy Mass Trying

“With the goblin Magician’s adventures transforming him into such a grand and esteemed member of this body then, surely, we would all benefit from what magical insights he will uncover when left to his own devices until the next meeting. Surely, we will all be gob smacked in their profundity.”

These reproving words of the Archwizard Merzhin rang through the ears of the magic-user Crambo on his journey back to Orm. The head of the Transcendental Congress of the Aureate Precepts didn't seem to care much for the magician cursed to live as a goblin's repeated showing off of his shadow-steed duplicate of Copra Kaan or constant sharing of his tales of adventures in other planes. What reflection there was to be had there, Crambo probably did none of it as he was not the type of waste his thought on such things. Still, he was left with the sting of the rebuke. To add insult to injury, Crambo's return to Orm brought with it the reminder that all of his regular fellow adventurers are now rich with the loot from a dragon's hoard.

While Crambo was away, Fr. Bert used his money to craft a pressurized device for smoking meats. The marvel brought new customers to the Shack while also allowing him to increase his capacity to feed the orphans of Orm in Arishem's name. The rest of the group took part in the traditional celebration of the Summer Solstice. When Crambo sat down at the Drinkig Crow, Copra Kaan was trying to explain some strange vision of the Black Pyramid he experienced while inebriated. Armeen was buying drinks with coin from his/her purse that had become even heavier with well placed bets on the Summer Tourney of the Bronze Dragon (a tradition in Orm ever since the vat spawn Ur-Kel's trials to join the knightly order).

It was Fr. Bert that unexpected brought up that the party should return to collect more of the dragon's hoard. Last time, with Crannoc's aid they collected all the gold and some electrum but piles of electrum and silver still remained. There was little debate on the idea and quickly the following group was seen trekking off to the Athenaeum:

  • Armeen (Level 5 Cleric of Danu)
    • Jubal (Level 3 Beast Master retainer)
      • his mangy mutt
  • Copra Kaan (Level 6 Vat Spawn Antaur)
  • Crambo (Level 4 Magic-User)
    • Agera (Level 2 Fighting Mutant)
  • Fr. Bert (Level 5 Errant Friar of Arishem the Judge)
They were later seen heading towards the Loan Bank of Orm heavy with coin. Armeen did not deposit his coin and instead headed off to work on dreams she has for the Shrine of Danu. The visibly shaken Jubal and Agera went off to celebrate their accomplishments and discuss their futures as they caroused around Orm.

The pair of retainers raised glasses to the common victories: continuing friendship with the gorilla folk guards, defeat of the foot soliders of Valtropis, and living another day richer than they were before. But underneath it all, something made it all seem like a show. In quite moments, they would discuss with each other whether they should carry on. There is something dark that steals one's very vigor in Level 5 of 'The Complex.' Sure, a well timed light spell pushed it back into the black subterranean tunnels but this did not seem like victory. They party has achieved much. They've seen other planes and beat terrible foes like demons and dragons. Their departure from Level 5 felt more like a retreat than a victory march. The group discussed leaving treasure, Even Copra Kaan seemed scared. They were rich now and maye it was time to retire become whatever that was put an end to them...
