Burning Witch Adventurers Session #95- For Freedom

Fancy Jean-Yves Beauvollier did not fair well with the Summer Tourney of the Bronze Dragon. His paramour (and adventuring companion) believed the bard's poorly placed bets were due to distraction from worry over his missing friend Freedom the Sapient Cat. This theory seemed buoyed by Fancy's behavior. While Fancy proclaimed around the Burning Witch his desire to find his cat, it took Peaches to suggest that his next delve into 'The Complex' be to use the new spell he composed and track down Freedom.

Journeyman Crannoc had just gotten back to Orm form a lackluster convoking of the Transcendental Congress of the Aureate Precepts. The unveiling of the Philospher's newest spell seemed overshadowed by the Magician Crambo's new magic steed and tales of visits to not one or two but three other planes. Maevra Lun was caught in the general malaise of her chronic condition. The pair seemed eager for distraction and willing to aid Fancy in his quest. The were joined by a frequenter of both the Burning Witch and the Drinking Crow Bex. The vat spawn was invigorated by her time joining the Drinking Crow's proprietor Gabby in observing the Solstice in a dwarfin sacred day of maintenance. This saw her eager for burn some energy in adventure. At the Iron Gate of the Rani, Merry Mako noted down these adventurers being joined by other to compose the following party:

  • Bex (Level 1 Vat Spawn)
  • Fancy Jean-Yves Beauvollier (Level 6 Bard)
    • Peaches (Level 4 retainer)
    • Ferris (Level 1 hireling)
  • Journeyman Crannoc (Level 5 Magic-User)
    • Sunya Strong (Level 4 Fighter)
  • Maevra Lun (Level 1 Plague Thief)

The party returned hours later, covered in blood and smelling like incense. They had Freedom with them.

Ferris accompanied Sunya Strong as she attempted to carouse around Orm. The Living Harness seemed dead set on discussing the philosophical implications of their most recent adventure. The first matter Ferris wanted to tackle was a guard room door permanently shrouded in darkness on Level 1. Did she think the darkness existed on the other side of the door? What would it mean for the darkness to exist on either side? Did this mean it existed in the rock and dirt behind the walls as well?

Next was a matter most vexing to Ferris. The Eye of Terror stationed two guards at the stairs on Level 2 that connected Level 1 to Level 3. These guards were a pair of ogres--literal ogres-- who had joined up with the Eye after Ferris had slain their leader a few weeks ago. While the death of this ogre won Ferris his freedom, the action was filled with an emotion they did not understand and lead to the disruption of the lives of so many ogres. This disruption that drove some of them to seek new lives under the Eye of Terror in desperation. Sunya countered not all the ogres were driven to a worse life. several of them found a different path when they fled in fear from Ferris' actions. This half a dozen ogres discovered an altar devoted to Law that gave them new purpose. Instead of living as bullies devoted to death and exploitations, they found themselves dedicated to the altar and religious contemplation. The disruption Ferris caused resulted in positive change as well. Plus, this change in the ogres led her employer for the delve, Journeyman Crannoc, to have an opportunity that the altar. The magic-user seemed greatly rewarded through insights he gained while mediating at the foot of the altar.

Ferris found these points raised by Sunya very agreeable. The insights gained by Crannoc intrigued the conscious suit of armor much more than those offered by the mystic Rebello. The wispy bearded magic-user seemed to act like mere secrets were great wisdom. Ferris wondered as to how he was able to obtain this information. Was it all with secret for a secret trades or did the foreign caster have some secret power to gain them? It did seem like what Rebello shared with Fancy and Crannoc seemed to be knowledge one could gain through experience in 'The Complex'. Ferris did enjoy, though, the decor of Rebello's lair. He could understand why Freedom hid out there.
