Against the Eye of Terror Pt. 2/The Red Riders of the Drinking Crow Session #69
For the second wave of the attack on the forces of the Eye of Terror and their allies, the Demon & Dragon Slayers of the Drinking Crow planned on taking the attack to the Eye's lieutenant the minotaur named Tormando. They had battled beastly humanoid once before--and they had won! Copra Kaan even claimed Tormando's horns for his own. Yet--with the aid of the Pool of Life--the tyrannical Eye revived his middle manager. Rumors had persisted since that Tarmando now wore a helm with metal horns as a replacement.
To prevent Tormando or any of the other targets from getting reinforcements, the adventurers form the Drinking Crow hired the Midnight Marauders to neutralize the Eye of Terror's force of vat-bred soldiers that were garrisoned on Level 1 of 'The Complex'. At first, the group thought to use the poison Armeen had acquired to poison the gnome-brewed ale and spirits the Eye's solider drank. Conversation than shifted to using a whole barrel of Sweet Dreams to knock them out. Copra supplied Marauder Many-Faced Gene with a magic belt to protect against the gas.
The adventuring party waited at the Iron Gate of the Rani as they sent the Midnight Marauders in. They let two hours pass before delving into 'The Complex' for they hoped for the Marauders plan to be enacted before they dived in. As they waited, Copra Kaan attempted to psych up the party and convince them to press all the way to the Pool itself. The rest of the group were not so sure. When the call for battle to be met came, the following party slipped into 'The Complex':
- Armeen (Level 5 Cleric of Danu)
- Jubal (Level 4 Beast Master retainer)
- Jubal's two mangy dogs
- Bludoon (Level 4 Dwarf)
- Doogan (Level 3 Dwarf hireling)
- Copra Kaan (Level 6 Vat Spawn)
- Fr. Bert (Level 5 Errant Friar)
- Sunya Strong (Level 4 hireling)
Tired, the group began their way home. Along the way, the hirelings and retainer Jubal seemed to lag behind the rest of the party as they discussed quietly among themselves. Copra Kaan sported an eye stalk where his missing eye had been. The vat spawn antaur constantly experiment with retract the stalk into his eye socket with no avail as the walked along the beach back to Orm.
Via Armeen's player Shahnawaz, we can glimpse what the cleric thought of the events he/she had just been through:
From Armeen of the Twin Rivers
Dear Magi Naztab,
Demons, oppressing the creatures around them; dragons, amassing stolen gold and
treasures, and killing all around them; and this Eye of Terror, oppressing and subjugating all
around him. We have killed all three of these types of tyrants. The group I adventure along with,
we have had many successes, but this last one against the Eye shows how much of that is
random luck. Sure, we all have skills, but those can only get us so far. Father Bert was turned to
stone, but because of his help, we were able to destroy the Eye. We have a lead on how to turn
him back, and we are going to use the death of the Eye as leverage to get this done.
I must have Father Bert back. While he does follow a different god, I have found that he
has become a measuring stick to keep me on the correct path. I seem to be having more and
more dark thoughts as of late. As I grow in power, I find I want to use this power to gain
advantage against my enemies as opposed to helping my allies. If these feelings persist, I will
be no better than the tyrants that I have dispatched. Having him around keeps me grounded
and focused. We all know I have never been the best at anything, but at least I have been able
to find people to make me better, as I hope I make them better.
In other news, our shrine to Danu has become more of a building. The Sphinxes that
reside there have better quarters as well as we have a new dedicated area to help heal the sick
and infirmed. If we find another big haul, I am hoping to expand our shrine more and possibly
even form a joint effort with Father Bert’s kitchen to help feed more people in need, but that is a
discussion if I ever get more funds from the Complex.
That is all for now,
Armeen of the Twin Rivers
Meanwhile, this ichor-stained note was found the next morning on the beaches along the Cerulean Sea:
Copra Kään’s To-Do List:
-Devise a plan.
-Feel like a General!
-Give a barrel to a many-faced man.
-Kill a Minotaur without any horns (for the second time).
-Kill some guards.
-KILL THE EYE OF TERROR!
-Time for grafting…
The retainer Jubal and the two hirelings from the 111th Company only live through the magical healing delivered to them by Armeen. They were stabbed while under magical sleep while Copra taunted their foes instead of brokering for their safety. The 111th Company took a vote and they find that Copra Kaan possesses a recklessness that extends beyond himself or those under his direct employ. Until the 111th can be proven otherwise, parties including Copra Kaan cannot hire members of the hireling guild for their endeavors.
Copra is dumbfound as to this decision.
