Burning Witch Adventurers Session #84- In The Hidden Halls of the Hill Dwarves

A new of new faces, hungry for the gold and glory of adventure, wandered into the Burning Witch. They wandered up to a table of adventuring sorts and introduced themselves. A human woman with a sickly pallor to as "Maevra Lun " while a vat spawn with indigo skin and min green eyes identified herself as "Bex". They were offered up spots at the table and given a chance to weigh in on the tavern's gossip. A handful of Burning Witch regulars left three weeks ago for a place called the "Great Cavern" and have yet to return. A dwarven chef at table, Bludoon, claimed to have been in the aforementioned cavern. Any details beyond how dangerous the place is were left undivulged by the culinary artist as he quickly got lost in describing the collection of mushroom's he had acquired form a large, sentiment mushroom he had encountered in the vast wilderness of the Complex's fourth level.

Another at the table, the cleric Dawg Dog, leaned in and in a hush voice said, "If adventure is what we are all after, I know a secret tunnel that will take us to Level 1." The promise of not having to pay by taxes on treasure removed form the Complex through bypassing the Iron Gate was enough to get the rest of the table to agree to this scheme. The following were seen leaving the Burning Witch together by quickly lost anyone trying to follow to see where they went:

  • Bex (Level 1 Vat Spawn)
  • Bludoon (Level 1 Dwarf Chef)
  • Dawg Dog (Level 1 Cleric of Zotul)
    • Shelby (Level 0 Sibling Snail)
  • Maevra Lun (Level 1 Plague Thief)
  • Ngorome (Level 1 Magic-User)
Here is an illustration depicting events from the delve by Bludoon's player Sam.

The party returned to the Burning Witch hours later, covered in dirt and slim. A smell of rot and mildew wafted form there general direction. Bludoon set out form the group to return to his stall in the market to discover how to turn turn the meat of a burrowing worm into a culinary delight. Meanwhile, Maevra Lun headed off to parts unknown to find the right buyer for a painting the group had in there possession. As Ngorome walked to the northwest towards the ruins of Orm-Of-Old and the Athenaeum of the dying sun, the magic-user pondered the image in the painting. It was familiar to him yet he could not place the visage with a name. By the time he had reached the old bathhouse-turned library that was the Athenaeum, he had at least placed where he had seen it before: in a painting at the Auric Chamber of the Trascendental Congress commemorating the certification of the Aureate Precepts.

Ngorome entreated the members of the Athenaeum with the following:

"I ask a boon of the illustrious company here (though I am not a member, I have heard of your exploits and researches). I have received these moldy tomes from beneath, and a fire has been lighted in my mind--what if we were to develop a magical dweomer to return them to their proper state, and thus glean the knowledge hidden and thence lost within their moldering pages? This spell, 'Ngorome's Glorious Binding of Ancient Knowledge' could be used to expand the Athenaeum's library (and perhaps the Impossible Fortress' as well)--as well as its more prosaic use in the expansion of my own humble store of knowledge. "Having little money and being yet of little rank in the Transcendental College, I ask the boon of a grant to fund my research and development of this spell, for the increase in all our knowledge."
