Burning Witch Adventurers Session #73- To the White Altar

A group recent arrivals to the Burning Witch adventuring scene joined one of its less experienced dungeon crawlers at one of the tavern's tables. They had decided to join together and a plan a delve on their own. Just the day before, a group had returned from 'The Complex' with a pair of tribal mutants. The talk of the tribesfolk and where they come from inspired discussion around the strange white altar they worship. Once, a night spent at the holy site had granted a few of Orm's adventuring set with abilities beyond normal humans. This group decided to make the altar the heart of an adventuring expedition once again. After spending some of their coin at the 111th Company for a pair of hirelings, the following party headed down to the beach along the Cerulean Sea and headed towards that cliffside entrance:

  • Bludoon (Level 1 Dwarf)
  • Dog-Dawg (Level 1 Cleric of Zotul)
    • Sunya Strong (Level 2 Fighter hireling)
  • Ngorome (Level 1 Magic-User)
    • Chauncy (Level 0 Oprhan hireling)
  • Zod (Level 1 Cleric)
The party returned with all members accounted for and un-mutated. They had in their possession a pair of jars similar to the one Phasmo bought off his compatriot's the night before. As the party went their separate ways, Bludoon sought to rent some kitchen space and experiment with a few dishes using the ingredients from their delve: a partially whole cave cricket, some glowing mushrooming, 2' long shelf mushrooms, yeast from the field, and some black grass.

Here is a series of poems, written by Zod and provided by his player Charlie, recapping the events of the session:

Bludoon and Dog-Dawg

Ngorome and yours truly

Seek out mutation

North the flowing well

The invisible Bludoon

Hugs the magnet wall

We found some fine folks

Whose eyes were near infinite

They asked for ten gold

Declined their offer

And instead we tried sneaking

“To jail” they declared

Dog-Dawg and Sonya

Having had enough banter

Severed them swiftly

Cave crickets appeared

Ngorome and young Chauncy

Tackle a cricket

All of a sudden

Strangers clad in bright armor

Attacked from the rear

Bloodlust filled the air

Easily crushing the foes

The room a graveyard

Overflowing Pots

Mushrooms, yeast fields, and crickets

Gathered by Bludoon

Destination reached

A great big door blocked our path

Dog-Dawg took a swing

To no avail, though

Unbudging door, footsteps close

We hightail it out

Mysterious cave,

An unforgiving complex

Still, new friends were made

Here are the notes of Bludoon's player Sam from the session:

Treasure

  • Two clay jars of a strange red, crystalline liquid worth 600gp to the Right Buyer
  • A hunk of blue quartz worth 100gp

Experience Points

  • 700xp from treasure
  • Many-eyed guards of the Eye of Terror killed 2 x 15xp
  • Cave Cricket smashed 1 x 20xp
  • Members of the Order of the Illuminated Eye defeated 4 x 13xp

Player Character Cut

  • 20gp ea.
  • 200xp ea.
Write-ups, maps, or drawings form the session earn PC Level x 100xp. Let me know of any downtime activities anyone wants to take on. Finding a non-player character buyer for the red liquid will take a downtime action.

Bludoon's Cooking Challenge

Bludoon wants to try to create something edible from the dungeon excursion and is using rented space in the Burning Witch to do it. To take on this challenge, the dwarven chef will have to spend 1d20 x 5gp. He then will roll 2d6 (better ingredients earn up to +2 to this roll) to see if he succeeds. On a roll 6 or less, his kitchen experimentation is a total bust. A throw of 7 to 9 gains Bludoon XP equal to the go spent as he learns something new in the kitchen but gains a complication. On one of 10 or greater, Bludoon earns the XP and may choose one of the following:
  • Gain a +1 on their next Build an Institution roll (Maximum of +3 bonus to the roll from this downtime or spending additional gp) from the buzz of their culinary pop-ups
  • Gain a free attempt at a Cultivate Relationship downtime. This free attempt cannot be used to advance a relationship past the "Friends" tick in a relationship clock
This downtime activity must be attempted with a combination of ingredients acquired from adventuring that Bludoon not used before.
