Burning Witch Adventurers Session #57- Some Solid Dungeoneering

The Robber (and criminal wanted by the Imperial Mother) Dogmouth had the Burning Witch hanging on every word of his tale of the thief's ill met attempt at completely the looting of the Basalt Mausoleum. Betina, eager to return the Complex, offered to back him up on another attempt. Some recent arrivals, brought by tales of the mysterious underworld called 'The Complex', displayed a bit of interest in Dogmouth's score. It was, however, a pair of old dungeoneering hands that came through in the end: PakPak and Journeyman Crannoc. From PakPak memories of the first trip to the Mausoleum and Dogmouth's of the second, Crannoc arranged two things on their advise. The first, a scroll of dispel magic, Crannoc traded for a favor to a ranking wizard in the Transcendental Congress of the Aureate Precepts. The other as a lantern that Crannoc cast Continual Darkness on. Once everything was prepared, the following party set out:

  • Betina (Level 3 Fighter)
    • Yeoman Klang (Level 1 Thief hireling)
  • Dogmouth (Level 3 Thief)
    • Sunya Strong (Level 1 Fighter hireling)
  • Journeyman Crannoc (Level 4 Magic-User)
    • Spike (war dog)
  • PakPak (Level 4 Kobold)
They returned, all still living, but unburdened by coins unlike the first group to visit the Mausoleum. Their treasures were all smaller. Dogmouth seemed especially phased by a psychometry reading of some red dust that hinted at how to activate a portal on Level 3.

Dogmouth's player Sam is in the process of creating this recap of the day's events (These were initially posted on his Patreon. He expects to make two more to finish it out):

Yeoman Klang and Sunya Strong took their cut of the loot and hit Orm to celebrate. The pair chew the ears off their fellow 111th Company members about the top notch adventuring they witness in this delve. Clever tactics and preparation lead to minimized risk with descent reward. The pair have been over heard saying that they would let their services be reserved by any member of the party at 1/2 the rate (50gp)*. Eventually, Sunya interests were diverted from entertaining her fellow hirelings to trying to impress a platinum-haired courtesan (recently favored by Lefty Redbeard). Sunya big spending on her drove the hireling 180gp into debt to the Yoseppi of the Loan Bank. Word is that Sunya learned some secret from the courtesan. Klang, on the other hand, fell in with out-of-towners drinking a variety of strange brews. Since then, Klang has developed a sickly parlor (CON 7, HD now 1d4-1) but seemed to move with a fluid grace (DEX 13, +1 AC, +1 Missiles, +5% XP).

*This last until either PakPak, Dogmouth, Crannor, or Betina damage that impeccable reputation in some way.

PakPak's player Rob A. visualizes how the party used a lantern of Continual Darkness to slip past some gorilla folk who guard a choke point on Level 3.
