Burning Witch Session #46- A Trip to the Library

Crambo and Scamandros returned from the depths of the underworld, the adventurers of the Burning Witch had turned their attentions back to the most classical of pursuits-- treasure! The bard Fancy Jean-Yves Beauvoiller, inspired by plans he had been dreaming of late, convinced the following party to join him in a raid on the Imperial Mother's Research Library:

  • Betina (Level 2 Fighter)
    • Geoph (Level 1 Gnome hireling)
  • Dogmouth (Level 3 Thief)
    • Smokey Proag (Level 2 Halfling hireling)
  • Fancy Jean-Yves Beauvollier (Level 5 Bard)
    • DT (faithful dungeon terrier)
    • Forest (faithful ghost hound)
    • Freedom (Sapient Cat)
    • Tome Berry (Level 1 "Magic-User" hireling)
The party returned, with six porters, carrying 60 lbs. of books from the library form their spoils. Fancy was missing a butt cheek while most of the group were looking a little singed.

The diminutive trio of retainers took their pay out and hit the town in a way not seen since before Yellow Fever came to Orm. Not a drinking hole within the Orm proper was left unvisited by the three as they celebrated their brush with death in a grand library in "The Complex" off the beach East of town. They shared the grizzly tale of how the bard Fancy Jean-Yves lost a butt cheek to a hungry crocodile and how his faith dog DT slew the beast in revenge. They took turns reenacting Fancy bringing the underworld outlaw Dogmouth to the researchers of the library in the classic decoy prisoner gambit. In every retelling, the ploy goes south and the triad from the 111th Company end up being blown to high heaven by strange glowing orbs the researches used. If it wasn't for their employers sharing a life giving crystal fruit with them, the hirelings would all be lying six feet underground. Now something none of the hirelings can agree on is if the stacks and stacks of books the group got for their troubles were worth it. Geoph, though, is fond of saying that, "We got of 200gp payout for them so those coded tomes are those adventurers problem now!"

Loot

  • A "Wanted" poster of Dogmouth
  • 60 lbs. of research books covering animal and/or monster biology as well as some on the ecology of the underworld worth 2000gp
  • 5 pairs of gloves with a small pouch with an orb that does the following:
    • The orb, when throw at a target using a missile attack roll, creates a small explosion doing 3d6 fire damage to all within 10' of its impact. On a miss, the orb still explodes. The range is 5'-10'/11'-60'/61'-120'. While reusable, it is not known if the orbs can be used indefinitely.
Experience Points

  • 2000xp from treasure
  • Crocodiles defeated 2 x 20xp
  • Researchers slain 5 x 65xp

Player Character Cut

  • 200gp paid out to each hireling for their cut of the books
  • 788xp ea.

The party is holding a contest for the chance to bid on two pairs of gloves with matching orb. Fancy has said of the pending events:
Details on the contest of skill will come later once we work it out. Just letting everyone know ahead of time so they can practice there tossing skills.
Write-ups, art, or maps from the session are worth 100 x PC Level in XP. I know that Betina and Fancy are spending a downtime on Fancy learning how to read braille from Betina. Let me know if Dogmouth wants to pursue any downtime activities.
