A Funeral for Banx and Other News Around Orm!

It hasn't even been a fort night but a series of noteworthy events has lead to another round up of the latest news around Orm:

R.I.P. Banx

Banx, founder and Guild Master of Orm's 111th Company of Hirelings and Retainers died on a recent expedition (details down below). The Company is holding elections within its membership to see who will assume leadership of the organization. Current front runners are retired hireling Whiskers Redbeard, who assumed day-to-day administration of the Company when Banx was ill with Yellow Fever, and Ur-Kel, Banx's vat spawn widower. An unexpected member of the Company gaining some support is the elf Lirazil, who isn't even announced a desire to run. There are rumblings that the Impossible Fortress would prefer Ur-Kel to ascend to a leadership position and bring some order to the chaotic nature surrounding adventuring life in Orm. Meanwhile, the proprietor of the Drinking Crow Gabby is trying to bring the influence of Orm's merchants to his cousin's bid for leadership.

The price of goods passing through Orm's docks have jumped up by at least double normal market numbers. The combination of Yellow Fever and mysterious longships raiding vessels in the Bay of Favel has tightened supply in the city-state. The raids, rumored out be based out of Sourwood Marsh, brought doubt to Sir Yann Sharp's claims of bringing an an end to the raids plaguing communities west of Orm through the capture of the Sea King known as the Steel Griffin. The knight argues that the attacks are from a new threat that has settled in.

The Midnight Marauders finally returned to the depths of 'The Complex' after finally regaining full strength. Their numbers had been temporally reduced by Yellow Fever. The group returned full in number but with their member Carabas witless and several members covered in slime and blood. They were seen with members Sir Rolf Van Pattyn and Zathur carrying an oak chest back to their meeting hall. Sir Rolf was seen with a new rune covered sword in his belt. Souz'awn guiding the afflicted Carabas. Zathur of Mere and Sir Rolf where later seen, just before dusk, walking toward the Athenaeum of the Dying Sun.

The vat spawned adventurer Hate Pit has purchased an old house overlooking a wild copse of trees on the western side of Orm and established a group home for vat spawn. The home currently houses only two other vat spawn; No Legs and Star Eyes. The neighbors are curious about the strange beings but weary about their potential plans for the institution.

Funeral for Banx

Banx, founder of the 111th Company of Orm and retainer to the vat spawn Hate Pit, perished at the hands of a ghoul on Level 2 of 'The Complex' on a recent delve with Frim Frimerson, Hate Pit, PakPak, and Copra Kaan. Banx and her former employer had a very tumultuous relationship. This fact, though, has not lessened Hate Pit's affection nor grief which has spurred them to pay 1000gp for a funeral for their Illusionist retainer. At Banx's burial, her vat spawn husband Ur-Kel and Hate Pit will trade eyes (as vat spawn can) as reconciliation between the two parties over issues surrounding Banx's death and Hate Pit's acquisition of the Illusionist's X-Ray eyes. Their spilt ichor to join Banx in her eternal rest.

All are welcome to spend a downtime segment this week to partake in the funeral and days-long reception afterwards at the Burning Witch. Anyone participating will receive 100xp. For each additional 1000gp collectively spent, an additional 100xp will be earned by each participant. Those that choose to participate must roll a Save vs Death/Poison. On a success, they will roll 2d6 on the table below. On a failure, they are to roll 1d6.

Carousing Table: Banx’s Funeral Edition

Roll

Carousing Result

1.

Let’s Smoke This Shit- A couple of Banx’s old friends from her pre-adventuring days convince you to smoke some of a red crystal drug currently in vogue with Orm’s seedier population called the Crystal Death. You spend a day experiencing phantasmic visions filled with sites beyond your ken. Roll 1d10. On a 1, make a Save vs Spells. If successful, gain 1 WIS. On a 10, you are now addicted to the Crystal Death.

2.

Drunken Lout- You drank well past your limit in the reception afterwards. If you failed your Save vs Death, you blacked out gaining no experience for the events of the last few days. Ona successful save, you just managed to stay conscious but embarrassed yourself in front of the 111th Company, putting you at a -1 in your relationship with the organization the next session you play.

3.

What is a Funeral without a Fight?- A misunderstanding with the tuffs that Banx used to run with ends in a fist-fight. Roll a 1d4: (1-2.) Start the next session -1d4 HP (min. 1) (3.) Lose 1d3 teeth (4.) You earn their respect. They will perform one minor favor.

4.

Mournful Triste- You have a grief-filled hook up with a member of the 111th Company as you both try to feel something of that precious life that Banx’s death makes you both all too aware could end at any moment. If you successfully Saved, then they fondly remember the event allowing you to open one clock in a relationship with the hireling. If you failed, they remember the encounter poorly giving them a -1 Loyalty scores and all reaction rolls with you going forward.

5.

Sorry, Many-Faced Gene Couldn’t Be Here But...- You are asked to deliver a few words for imprisoned 111th Company member Many-Face Gene. If you succeed on your Save, you fulfill your task and a grateful Gene will perform one simple spying mission for you free of charge. If you fail the Save, you get so inebriated that you lose the paper with his words on it. Gene will find out and will not forget...

6.

Hold Your Drink- You spend the days after the funeral at the Burning Witch. You imbibe more than your share of drink but you carry yourself well throughout the festive paying of respects. If you failed your Save, how much you drink only catches up to you later. The next session you play, you are -2 to Atk rolls and Saves until you successfully make one due to your hangover.

7.

It was a Beautiful Service- You pay your respects while avoiding any ugly displays of grief or embarrassing levels of drunken debauchery.

8.

Powerful Words- You spontaneously speak a few words about Banx with such eloquence that they live on in the memory of all that attended. Gain an additional 50xp.

9.

Live Fast, Dying Young- You do right by Banx’s memory and her neck tattoo with a outstanding display of debauchery in her memory. Earn an additional 100xp

10.

Pallbearer- You are asked to help bear Banx to her final place of rest. Make 1 3d6 Strength check. On a success, you perform your duties with honor and permanently gain +1 to all Loyalty from Company members.

11.

A Big Help- You help a member of the 111th Company with a task related to the events commemorating Banx’s death, comfort one a moment of bereaved despair, or perform them some other kindness. They will either accompany you on a future adventure free of charge (but not of their 1/2 treasure share) or perform some other comparable minor favor for you. Roll to see which member it is.

12.

A Life Worth Living- The funeral reminds you why life is worth living under this dying, bloated red sun. That spark will allow you to re-roll your next failed Saving Throw as you cling to what precious existence you have left.
