Adventurers of the Drinking Crow Session #2

Half a week after the second delve of the adventurers based out of the The Burning Witch, the weather was still rainy and Orm was still a bit of a mess post-The Resplendent FêteThe Drinking Crow crew gathered around and sipped on some of Gabby's herbal mountain tea (catch those flowering notes?) as they planned their second first delve into the cliff face tunnel. Those gathered consisted of:
  • Elvira Wyld of Odellwood Abbey (Level 1 Gothic Villain)
    • Elvira's minion Genevieve (now deceased)
  • Fränk Shark (Level 1 Thief)
  • Malagath Feneros (Level 1 Elf)
  • Rustam of the Twin Lakes (Level 1 Cleric of Danu)
They decided to delve once again without extra retainers and return a smaller party bearing the body of Elvira's trouble ward, Genevieve.

Rustam's player Shahnawaz provided another entry in the PC's journal covering the session:

The Madness of Rustam of the Twin Lake
Entry two,
Our second foray into the dungeon has proved to me that there is a madness in it.  Not only are the waters there, we found that they run up the side of a vast hole in the center of a room north of the entrance that we used, defying gravity itself!  Malagath Feneros volunteered to be lowered down into the pit as far as we could to see.  He spotted an opening and saw that it continued to the north.  We were hesitant to follow that lead as it might have led to someone falling to their inevitable end. We continued on, finding a room with a red liquid flowing out of a wall, which Malagath mentioned that it could be used as a source for practitioners of magic (we were able to collect and sell it for quite a bit of coin).  While Malagath and Fränk Shark were collecting the substance, Elvira Wyld of the Odellwood Abbey, Gene Vieve, and myself set off to explore a little more.  We found a room with glowing mushrooms, which tasted fine, but was not very delicious raw.  We then heard noises coming from an adjacent room, sounds of screaming.  We rushed over to find these giant insects and were attacked by them.  Sadly, Elvira’s ward Gene, had perished, but we were able to defeat our foes.
After we dispatched them, we met some curious people.  They were small, and completely hairless, like the fellow Hate-Pit which I’ve heard about in The Burning Witch.  They called themselves the Brothers, they said that their function was to harvest the mushrooms for consumption.  In our conversations, it was found that what we call the dungeon is referred to as The Complex by its denizens.  They also refuse to believe that there is anything beyond it.  I tried to show them and explain to them that there is indeed an outside.  However, finding our conversation being a nuisance to them, we took our leave, hoping to not set a bad first impression.  Elvira and I returned to the room with Malagath and Fränk only to be accosted by some more curious denizens.  This interaction was nowhere near as friendly, as they drew weapons at us stating what our business was and to get away from the wall.  Malagath for some reason did not want to disclose our intention, and as to not undermine him, I went along.  These creatures wore strange garments and had helmets completely obscuring their faces.  We were able to talk down our new acquaintances and they escorted us near the exit, but they also could not be convinced, no matter how hard we tried, that there was an outside of this complex.
On our return, Elvira had Gene Vieve buried, at a considerable expense to herself.  Elvira graciously allowed me to perform Danu’s rights over the body and prepare it for the Next Step.  I must do something else, I feel the burden of responsibility for Gene’s death, if it wasn’t for my appetite of discovery, she might still be with us yet.  Before that, I must seek out this second group from The Burning Witch, I should show them our map, what we found and who we encountered and where.  This will hopefully let them be wary and hopefully more ready for things to come.
